Hi everyone,

I did a search for Chinese fonts and Chinese characters but came up with nothing, so I decided to post to see if anyone knows.

I came across a mod that allowed me to see Chinese characters using English client WoW. I can't find the link or a place to download anymore and would like to know if anyone has any idea as to where to procure such mod.

I appreciate any and all help given,

Thanks,

K-9

I'm pretty sure you can, just need the Windows language pack installed.

Even with the Language Pack installed on the OS, WoW loads up it's own fonts, which don't include Chinese Fonts, so they don't appear in-game.

If anyone is interested. I found on the `net how to do it.

I have the Clearfont addon. I simply replaced and renamed the .ttf fonts included in the fonts folder with Chinese Fonts I unpacked from the CWoW font.mpq.

If anyone wants more details, let me know.

hi cheboy,

just wondering if u could tell me (either post or private message) how to play the overseas servers using english client. i currently use the chinese version and its hard to cross reference between item/boss names in english & chinese.

im thinking about installing both clients and use whichever one i need at the time, so if u can give me any info on that, it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance.

PhatCop,

No worries, its actually quite easy.

Install the english client WoW (i used the GB wow).

Go to the "realmlist.wtf" (why have an extension named WTF i've no idea!!) file, and open it up with Notpad. located, i think, in the root of the WoW folder.

It should say something like:
eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com

Change it to:
tw.logon.worldofwarcraft.com

save file, exit then load up the game.

Log in. It will download all the latest patches and providing you got a valid key + subscription, it'll work.

However, which is where im having problems, it wont display chinese chars for me. its all blank blank blank. thats why im hoping K-9 would get back to me soon....~~~

anyways, thats how im doing it, good luck.

Che~

Hey, I know this topic is very very old but I signed up to this forum just because of the topic. I'm in china and I want to play on the china servers with my friends but I'd like to play it in english language. I see that cheboy has a solution but I want to know if this works if the latest english language version is 2.2.0 while the chinese version is 2.1.4. I checked and the english version never had 2.1.4 in the first place. Will cheboy's method still work? I don't have the game yet so I can't check but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask first.

I'm half-guessing at this so don't take it as fact.

If you do what Cheboy says above before downloading any EU or US (whatever you version is) patches, it should patch to the right version once you connect to the Chinese servers I think. You can download the EU and US clients for free anyway so it won't cost you anything to try.

Note that an EU or US account code will not work outside of that region. So you'll need a valid account code from whatever region you want to play in, probably obtained by buying the game there.

Hmm, I guess I'll just wait and see. I do have the original wow discs since I played it in USA a year ago though. Right now I'm downloading burning crusade and I'm really hoping this will work. And yeah, I'm buying the game for WoW china but it's dirt cheap compared to usa. Friend says the charge per minute but total will still be about the same as monthly subcriptions.

I used this link a while back to download a zip file that did exactly what you are looking for. Now I am again looking to enable Chinese fonts in the English wow client and am having difficulty finding them as this link is not currently working. I'll keep looking though.

http://www.i5studios.com/fonts.zip

this will download a zip file. Create a folder inside your wow folder called Fonts, unzip it in there. Done.

Here you go:

http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/9534/

This addon will allow you to read chinese, japanese etc fonts in game.

(Course, you could do like I did and just marry someone who is from China to translate it for you ;) lol. j/k folks!)

I expect those zips are okay but I'd suggest people scan them before they open to be safe, I'm always suspect of any links from an account with <5 posts.

WoW uses a UNICODE character set, not a Windows language pack. So... that means yes, yes it does have the Chinese characters in it. Now, they might have locked out certain codes from working on the US client...

Tunga does have excellent advise and I would recommend the same. However as far as suspecting someone with less than 5 posts goes-I would be more suspicious of the one who has been on a site less than a week and yet has managed to cram in more than a thousand some odd posts. :) Just my two cents.

If someone was on the site less than a week and managed to cram in more than a thousand some odd posts, then at least you'd have a fairly good idea what you are looking at... less mystery and doubt then. Someone with less than 5 posts... those would be relatively easy to miss, and you'd be hard up really being able to gauge exactly what the intent of the individual would be.

Better to err on the side of caution, is basically my philosophy.

Not on this forum. But then again I joined this forum to help answer this specific question :) I haven't had time to take a very good look around it as of yet so I wouldnt know if this forum has any of those sort of 'two worders' whose posts generally are something like "me too!' "you sure?" "how's that?" etc posts-designed not for knoweldge but to simply boost their post numbers for who knows what reason. If this forum has not as of yet had the fun of seeing these type of posters, then it's lucky :)

there is a 10 character minimum post to get rid of things like that. So, yes we are lucky to have Admins and Mods. (bows to green&blue posters)

Further, the admins/mods will tend to delete such posts just to bump up post counts (and such things are violations of the rules of the forum). Deleting the posts = lower post count. They also will set people to negative post counts...

Well, back to the topic. I've been playing on China servers using China client and it's just too damn hard to read because the fonts are a too cursive for a Chinese newbie like me. I just set myself up yesterday to play using English client on China servers (I used to play on US Servers before I became an expat).

Like the previous poster, just update the realmlist. I play on 一区 and the server address for that is:

set realmlist cn4.grunt.wowchina.com

My patch is:
set patchlist us.version.worldofwarcraft.com

I successfully logged in yesterday, only problem was I couldn't see Chinese characters anymore, so hopefully that'll get solved by what I found in this thread today.

By the way, I'd like to get in touch with more ppl that play China WoW in English, since I need some tips on communicating with the Chinese, e.g. instances like ZF, ZG, Maraudon, and all those new places, what they call them, etc.

maybe you can use clearfont to do this job, just copy and add chinese font to it's list.and use it in game.
