Ok, so here is the deal... I ordered WoW off amazon.com and it will come in the mail very shortly. I have been reading up on how to play the game and such and in turn need some help. I have no idea what character i should choose for my first one. I have yet to have any clue whatsoever on how to play the game so i wanted to get everyone's opinions on what the best setup would be to get my character up and going. Also, which of PvP or PvE anyone likes... Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

welcome to this forum.

dont post thread whit all caps titles please.

if you would search the forum a bit you would see alot of threads which ask the very question you asked and also get answers. I d recoment you wait till you get the game and play and find out what you like.

the game is balanced, every class has its function in groups, every class can stand theyr own ground when questing, every class has good points in PvP. All races have theyr advantages etc etc. What race / profession / class etc you choose is a matter of personal taste and you can find it out by yourself easily when playing the game.

have fun

I'll second Twoflower's comment about searching the forums.

For your question about "best" race or class combo, there really isn't one. All of us have different skills and interests. What you should do is play every class to level 5. Then pick two or three that you like, play them to level 10 or above (expecially Hunter, you get the pet at level 10).

Getting a character to level 5 should take a couple of hours if you are really new to MMOGs.

Above all - have fun! This is suposed to be a hobby.

There is one important thing you have to do, however. Talk to people! This game can be very lonely if you don't make the effort to interact with other players. On a PVE server you don't actually have to group up much at all (whereas on a PVP server you absolutely must group up once you leave the starter areas). It's up to you to make the effort to communucate and, also, to play nice so that people you group with will want to continue adventuring with you.

Cheers

In regards to pvp'ing or pve'ing you should consider what you want to do. You can pvp on pve servers, only voluntarely. I truly miss that option every time I'm questing (leveling up) and some lvl ?? opponent is wussing off his no-skills. I always, repeat always, regret rolling on PvP servers just because of the fact that there are a gazillion ganker pussies out there scared ****less of an even fight, and this is very annoying when you're trying to level your character...

I agree with Craig in regards to trying out a few classes. My first char was a druid, but I ended up as a tank (warrior) instead, loving it. Now I'm leveling a hunter, and it's great. I also have a shammy, warlock, priest and rogue, all past 20, some past 30. Try out the different classes, but go a bit further than lvl 5, I'd say take them pass 20 as you're starting to get a feel for what you're doing.

And last, but not the least: wwndata.worldofwar.net is your friend, use it!

Thottbot is not condoned on these forums, please don't link to it from here. The site is owned by IGE, a goldselling company.

Well, it's still the best and most userfriendly WoW database out there imo. I of course despise all gold-buyers, but the site is a great source of information. Sorry for linking it, will not happen again.

Hey guys, thanks for all of the feedback. especially you clef. I'll take it all into consideration when creating my first character. Im thinking warrior on a pve server but im not sure what race... Im so rediculously excited about this game coming in the mail.

You're in for loads of fun, I can tell you that. As to race of warriors, depends on what you wanna do. My main is a orc warrior, and I mainly tank. Nowadays I'm arms/fury specced for pvp'ing, but I think it's dull as hell compared to tanking the 40-man dungeons. In my opinion, nothing beats the fealing of keeping your group alive from big-assed mobs wanting to hug the squishies... ^^ I would say that what you rase you choose have little differenses in the end-game. Orcs have +axe and +hardiness, meaning they hit hard as hell with axes (nothing much if you're going to tank, but by all means, good to have), and hardiness (resist stuns and such, good to have in most occations).

Especially if you choose a warrior, you'll love a pve server. As a warrior, you don't escape. You can't hide, you can't run, you can't feign death, you can't do anything to get away, you can't heal (ok, you can with FA, but then you can't be hit). You stay and fight, that's what we do. We don't run, we stay and fight, and if we die saving our group, nothing is better. However, when leveling up, soloing, this isn't the best tactic when you're in Stranglethorn Vale, and have a ****load of other players lvl ?? wanting to pwn your arse. You can't escape them, and you can't hide from them, and you obviously have no chance of winning. No worries, you won't be attacked by a lot when the fight is fair. Players out there in world pvp (pvp server) are basically chickens and pussies (gankers, if you're offended, I'm glad, carebear ftw!), wanting to ruin other peoples game experience. This you won't experience on a PvE server as long as you don't deliberately flag yourself as PvP. Basically, your leveling will be slowed down on a PvP server by gankers, you don't get this on a PvE server. On a PvE server you still can PvP, only in battlegrounds and if players voluntarely flags themselves as PvP.

Trying to be pre-empitve...
Don't listen to anyone saying one faction seems to be more friendly than the other one. It might not be true on your server. There is no such thing as 'general average' regarding faction friendliness in WoW.

Have to agree with you Icefrost. Thought horde was much more grownups than Alliance, but when you have 10k characters on a server, there's a pretty good chance that you find all kinds of people...

Read this when picking race and generally 'what do I do'-questions.

and dont be scared of a pvp server. true, sometimes you get ganked, but it adds a little excitement to the game once you level your second or third char and know all the quests by heart anyway.

And if you do decide to go Horde. Piece of advise, when you go into the Barrens. Switch from General Chat to your combat log. It will help preserve your sanity.

Whereas, it's been my experience that Alliance has not so bright folks spread across the various levels and zones, the Horde keeps nearly all of them in a single zone and that's the Barrens.

Orrrr.... What would yall suggest as to warriors and rogues... would i be fairly well off on choosing either one of those... this game is sooo much to learn, its kind of overloading my brain. I hear everyone using all of these crazy terms and it confuses the hell outta me. jeese.

Uhm.. Click on it?
I mean, you got your chat log tab on the left and the combat log tab on the right. You really can't miss it imo.
