I just created a guest account this morning, but I can't seem to run the game. It crashes immediately and asks me to install the latest version of DirectX and the latest drivers for my graphics card, both of which I'm almost positive I have, although I don't know how to check (This is my first PC, I've used Macs for years). My graphics card is an SiS 740.
Can anyone help?

does the sis 740 support dx9? Is that an onboard graphics chip?

I really haven't the faintest idea, as I'm brand-new to this PC. All I know is that I had to install some new drivers to play Anarchy Online last month, and that worked. However, Anarchy Online was wack, hence the new WoW account.
Could it just not be a beefy enough card?

If that is indeed a standalone card i would probably try something else, or get a cheap pci radeon or nvidia of some sort and try that. I would think that would solve your problem.

I'd prefer to think of that as a last resort, as I don't really have the money to spend on a new card, and especially on getting it installed, as there's no way I'm cracking open my laptop myself.

Oh, i didn't see where you mentioned it was a notebook...
I would think that your graphics may not be beefy enough to play it. Could you give your specs of the machine?
cpu speed?
amount of memory?
video card memory?

1.1Ghz Athlon
360MB RAM
40Gig HD
I don't know how to check my video RAM, but I will if you give me instructions...

Uhm.. WoW requires a minimum of 512 MB RAM these days and it reall pays to have at least 1024 and preferrably more on board.
Anyway, try this program (http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/gamespy_srl?registration_option_id=1773). It ought to tell you what exactly the issue is, or at least the more likely issue. I vaguely recall there being an issue with the SIS740, but I don't recall what and am too fatigued right now for any proper thinking. Might want to delve through the official tech pages on the official WoW site.

According to the official list (http://faq.wow-europe.com/en/article.php?id=394) of video chips, the SiS 700 series are not supported for WoW
Your machine's a laptop, so you can't upgrade the video either.
Combined with the low (for WoW) memory, and you pretty much have to either not play this game or get a new computer...
Do you still have a Mac? WoW is playable on a G4 PowerBook, though you might need to turn the sound off on the older ones.
