View Full Version : When is it time to leave a guild?

I'm in somewhat of a quandry, as I deactivated my account for two weeks in order to take care of some RL obligations. I'll be reactivating my account later this week. I was still active on my guild's forums and I found out that within that first week, the GM of the guild quit due to their own RL obligations and after that more people started leaving in a panic/saw it as a good excuse to /gquit for greener pastures. After that there was supposedly a ZG run that didn't go so well, so more people quit. Afterwards were talks of a merger that fell through, but more talks with another guild popped up immediately following that. By this time more people started leaving after being tired of waiting for anything to happen (we were just starting to dent UBRS before all this went down).

I did my best to rally support on the forums, trying to keep everything positive as I've been with this guild since it was first formed, but even now I'm having my doubts. While I hate to leave based on the premise that things will improve elsewhere, since I hit 60, 80% of my time was spent sitting around in UC with little or nothing to do (not really planning much PvP on the character). The majority of my instance runs were with other guilds and I've gotten pretty close with a bunch of people from those guilds.

Either way, needless to say, the weeks leading up to my absence were not fun at all but at the same time there is that guilt associated with leaving during a period when the guild is in a very fragile/uncertain period.

Just wondering if anyone from a similar situation has any advice as to how they handled it.

Well I have always felt that you should mainly be guilded for fun.

My first guild's Gm was the heart and soul of our guild. When the same thing happened to him we started falling apart. We did merge, but the problem was thge tavern-brawlers were gone afterwards a couple of the officers got rank, but for the most part it was just us joining a new guild.

I say it may be best to cut your losses. No one will think less of you.

I would say leave, a guild where everyone is thinking about leaving is never a good thing. Better to go and find a new crew to play with.

All guilds evolve and change over time - at the end of the day we all play for fun and if you are not having fun in your guild then so be it - the sad fact is that even the strongest guilds can split - just as this game will not be around for ever, then neither will your guild.
Why are you paying $15/month to sit in UC?

I was in a great guild, with a good spread of levels, and a very large contingent of good level 60 players.

It was very friendly, committed to helping lower levels get through instances, shared the wealth in terms of manufactured items etc.

However, the level 60`s one day decided to leave all at once to join a hardcore raiding / end game guild, including the GM.

The heart was torn out of it, so I quit the guild.

I then joined another guild. Nice people, but they were obsessed with teamspeak. Every five minutes it was "join the teamspeak server, join the teamspeak server". Ok, I know why they wanted this, but it was just like having another boss giving me stick in my leisure time !!

I left that guild too. My new one is great so far.

I think that you just have to keep looking until you settle into one that feels right.

If you want to get into an end game guild or something, then I think you might want to leave the guild considering they're just STARTING to dent UBRS when everyone left... I mean, my guild (I believe) can run down UBRS in under 1 1/2 hours. As far as I know, most "just starting MC" guilds take 1 hour 45 minutes-2 hours.

Yes! Especially the part about the Gilmore Girls!

Hey, when you deactivate your account, does the remaining game-time cancel out? Or when you reactivate it does the game-time continues from when you deativated it?

(we were just starting to dent UBRS before all this went down).

Not to sound elitist or anything, but it doesn't sound like the guild had progressed that far beyond the "cool name and everybody hang out in guild chat" stage.

when you cancel the account you can still play up until when it's valid, it just won't be autorenewed.

That was part of a problem I spoke to the GM about with another guildie. The guild's intention from the beginning was end-game, but for months everyone got caught up in PvP Fever, and for a long time that took precedence with a lot of people over doing instance runs with guildies. A handful of the people that left were people who left when it came time to cut back on the PvP to focus on raiding.

After sleeping on it and looking at the website of another guild I'm interested in, I've made up my mind and I'm going to just give the necessary people a heads-up tomorrow when I leave.

I think you are making a wise decision to move on, i hope you find a guild you enjoy.

Yeah, it's a good idea to change guilds, especially when you want a more end-game guild. I mean, barely denting UBRS is kind of sad... Considering PUG's can take it down fairly easily. Excluding Drakk... Lol.

Generally, the best time to leave a guild is just after they've given you a lot of items, gold and materials from the guild bank. :D
