right now i have tailoring (220) and enchanting (101) as proffessions. in the nearest future i'd like to abandon enchanting, as i dont see a point in that: its too uch money consuming and its not profitable.
so i'm thinking of taking some gathering prof. still dunno what exact. i dont want to abandon tailoring as i have already spent too much effort and money to level it.
so my question: what would it be better to take?
with what can i make money?
i have read the threads in the forum concerning the professions and i see that skinning is not that profitable, mostly profitable is herbalism, then mining.
i thopught, probably i take skinning, as it is easier to level and to find beasts, then i'#ll just sell all the leather to vendors.
or would it be better to take mining, mine smth, smelt it and then sell to vendors? but from the other hand, it more difficult to find some veins as to find beasts.
so i dunno....:undecided:
please help..

P.S. always wanted to ask: what is the point of crafting professions in general? ok, let alone alchemy, where u can make potions to restore life, mana etc... but for example tailoting or leatherworking or the most useless prof enchanting....no one EVER uses the items that u cvan craft! ever! ok, lets say warlock duse Robe of the Void (tailoring) ...but u cannot sell it...me, as a talor, have never used items, that i can tailor myself! only once, i made a Robe of Power, i had it on me 3-4 days, then i got Enchanted Bloodrobe from the warlock quest. the only thing i really used for a long time was a wand, that i have enchanted (greater magic wand). this one i used pretty long time. nothing else. and enchanting....u have to pay 2g for math to get +15 healt or mana??? its totally useless!

ok, so i think everyone who would be able to read my post to the end will get my point... :azn:

hope to hear some answers...

Don't sell things you gather to vendors, sell them in AH to other players. On my server for example heavy leather sells for around 1g per stack of 10 while vendor would pay about 10s for it. You have to learn which items are wanted and which are not.

All gathering professions are relatively easy to level so that shouldn't affect your decision. They're all fairly nice at making money, skinning might be somewhat below mining and herbalism but anyone claiming it doesn't make profit is simply not knowing what he's talking about.

Never say never, as the saying goes. There are several recipes in different crafting professions that can generate nice income. Since they require materials to create, the amount of income won't be as high as with pure gathering professions but the point is there are useful crafting recipes than can generate money. With enchants the price for seemingly small extras might look big but you have to realize they're extras that can't be gained by any other means. Granted you won't be making much money with low level enchants, but at high levels enchanting is one of the more useful crafting professions. Leveling it is indeed expensive and the main income won't come from making the enchants themselves but selling the materials in AH.

I was similar to you - 210 tailoring 85 enchanting.
I dropped enchanting, created an alt for DE, took up skinning, power-levelled it to 225 dead easily and it's a good source of modest but solid income. No regrets.

Someone gave me a good tip for tailoring, too: warlocks really need this Robes of Arcana that comes from a pattern with an awful drop rate, the mats aren't hard or expensive, but I grinded several hours to get this pattern and have since sold 3 of them for about 3.5g. Not bad.

thanks for the reply. i think i'll go your way and take skinning for the main. i already have skinning on my alt, and i would say u are right, u can level skinning very quick.

thinking also of creating an alt on alli side. can i don it on the same server? can then my two chars communicate, i mean can i send items or money to my alli alt?

concerning the Arcana robe: yep, warlocks need it for one class quest. i tried to grind for that recepie...grinded 1,5 hour that left it.

IMHO, herbalism levels much faster than mining but both make nice $$. One thing in mining's favor is that the lowbie herbs (silverleaf and peacebloom) don't sell worth a damn but the lowbie vein, copper, always sells well (1.2g average per stack of 20 bars), at least on my server.

In herbalism, however, you will probably be gathering stuff like fadeleaf by level 35 and look in your AH for what a stack of fadeleaf goes for.

on a pve server you can have one on each side. but you can't transfer items on the AH since you can't bid on your own auctions. you'd have to have a friend put up items for you, and the neutral AH takes I think 10% instead of 5%, so it's not worth it to transfer gold.

Mining has done wonders for me and i'm only now starting to hit Iron Ores so my profits should jump significantly. I was able to make obscene amounts of money in a week just from Copper and Bronze stacks on the AH.

Between Skinning and Mining, I'd say it would takes roughly similar amounts of time just killing beasts and skinning them as it does finding veins. There are certain zones where you'll see veins everywhere.

if you are willing to stick with mining until about 260 tht is where you'll make lots for money. Truesilver bars sell for about 1-1.5 gold per bar and thorium sells 2 gold per bar. But dark iron bars sell for about 20 gold per bar on AH.

i've made my choice: i gave up enchanting and took skinning. i had to powerlevel skinnig in Dorotar and barrens a bit, as i'm already lvl42 and i quest in STV and i wanted to be able to skin there. so far i can say, i did more money from drops from the beasts, as from leather that i got :))) hopefully it'll be better over time.

one more question: what types of leather or whatever more can skinniong produce would it be better to sell? what sells better? where can i farm some good skinning 'maths' (or whatever u call it) ?
