Yeah, so I think im starting to grasp the concept of the game somewhat but i look at all the posts and i have no idea what people are talking about when they talk about pulling, tanking, grinding, ect... Does anyone know of a list of terms that i could look at that could help me learn to speak all of this gibberish??

Or if you just spend a day playing the game... :-)

tanking is intentionally taking all the hits during a battle so that the weaker classes can just stand back and do their thing.

grinding is killing guys over and over again for experience, gold or items.

pulling is simply getting an mob's attention and and in some cases leading it into a position where it can be killed easily.

A Mob is any single bad guy (despite the seemingly obvious plurality of the term).

anyone know why a Mob is one thing vs its real world meaning? I always wondered this but never had the courage to ask

Also to stay on subject...

WSG = Warsong Gulth
AB = Arathi Basin
PVP = Player vs Punkass Hordie Scum
PVE = Player vs Environment
RP = Role Playing

there are so many ...

Further down the track youll come up against heaps of acronyms, dont be afraid to ask what they mean, some are easy to pick, others need explanantion.

If in doubt just ask.

See definition 2:

Urban Dictionary is a great resource for virtually anything you don't know, incidentally. With Google, Urban Dictionary and Wikipedia, I can find out almost anything in less than 10 minutes

Mob comes from Mobile I think - meaning a moving monster.
PVP = Player vs Pansyass Pretty Boy Logolas wannabe Emo-kiddy Alliance
WSG= Won Somany Games the Horde now vacations there.

NPC - Non Player Character
FP - Flight Point
Q - Quest
Q Giver ... :grin:

etc - there is a glossary somewhere on this site

I'm not sure you looked very hard. This came up as the second item in the Google results list.

There's a more general lexicon at The Daedalus Project (http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/). Look for the link on the left hand side of the page.

WTS = Want to Sell
WTB = Want to Buy

I think if you read the manual (shock/horror) there is a list at the back of commonly used game terms.

Lol. This is the reason I /leave 1 when I am leveling a hordie, I feel I actually get less intelligent after spending an hour there.

@ OP: (OP = Original Poster) There are many warcraft glossaries around on the web. Just do a Google search of warcraft terms glossary (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=warcraft+terms+glossary&meta=) and you will find something good. May I reccomend you check out the worldofwar.net glossary (http://www.worldofwar.net/guides/glossary/index.php)though rather than others, good site and its the home page for these forums.

EDIT: After checking the worldofwar.net glossary I found "FUBAR - Flipped up beyond all recognition", has anyone EVER seen that :shocked:

A lot of this stuff is in the glossary of your WoW manual...so here's another acronym for ya: RTFM :grin:

kimmyrafter

QQ is an emote...something along the lines of "cry more n00b"
FUBAR actually has roots in the military, WWII iirc(world war two if I remember correctly).
RTFM = read the flipping manual = 99% of the time a complete WASTE. Instruction manuals are universally poorly written and I never crease the binding on one until I have no other alternative.

OOM = out of mana
IMO/IMHO = In my opinion, with an optional disclaimer of "humble"

All these links to glossaries of terms are really useful, cheers guys.

However, I can't find the term "Happy Loot" in any of them :( I read a guide about powerlevelling and someone used it on there but actually failed to define what he meant by Happy Looting.........I've no doubt that its extremely obvious (as is usually the case with terms for me lol)

Mob comes from MUDs, and is derivated from Mobile - Monsters on Muds can move therefore they're mobile and called Mobs, and I think it just kind of got handed down from there to MMOs and the newer games. MUDs Ftw!

Well, that's another way to put it and a lot more polite considering the actual letters of that acronym are a violation of the language censor. :grin:

Me?? I'd use a Farscape term instead.

Happy loot might be something like Loot Monkey ...

When playing with friends if one person is broke they become loot monkey and basically we set free for all and they loot absolutely everything. Sell off when they fill up rinse and repeat. It is a good idea when power leveling a toon since stopping to loot slows down the killing speed of the big char.

For the longest time I thought that was PST like "Psssst! Over here!" kind of like whisper ... still makes no sense - just thought I would share my general NOOBishness.

Newbie: new player, may not know the ropes, may ask lots of questions - generally an affectionate term.

Noob: not so nice version of newbie - can also mean a person (sometimes a jerk) that does stupid stuff etc.

Nub N00B n00b Nooblet etc are all variations of the above.

"Shard" also has another meaning not listed.
Basically means Disenchant for the means of getting Shards. (Large Brilliant Shards, Small Glimmering Shards, etc). This can be done by anyone who's an enchanter.
"Mrperson wins [Uber Twig of the Hedgehog]."
"[Mrperson] says: yay. Can anyone shard for me plz?"

Also referring to PST, yes it means "Please Send Tell". Usually used when Looking for a Group or selling/buying something.

"LF2M Scarlet Monastery need Healer and Tank! PST"
"WTB [Cap of the Red Herring] PST"
"WTS [Chef's Hat of the Uber Barbeque] 25g PST"
etc :grin:

Nope, but sure would like to know ;)

I have started to se FTL as well.

"PST" is kinda funny. Rerolled (roll on another server or make another character you decide to play mainly) on another server after having close to 70 days played and saw it for the first time. When it started occuring on my old server you could tell they had rerolled there: "LFG Deadmines PST" in the middle of Orgrimmar (The deadmines is in alliance territory and very few horde ever go there).

You know I have thought FTL was "For the Lose", but the other day I got a pally quest and the quest giver said "For the Light" which made me wonder if that was its meaning. It sounds way better than For the Lose.

For the Light! :wink:

Boraxe

Draft/Drafting: Following another party who clear out the trash-mobs and fodder, thus making your trip easier.

Usage example 1: "These guys are going into Deadmines, too. Let's Draft them to the instance entrance."

Usage example 2: "Those friggin' guys are Drafting us. Keep an eye out in case they try to kill-steal the boss when we reach him."

Usage example 3: "These guys aren't skinning so I'm gonna Draft them for a while to skin their kills."

Origin: From the auto racing tactic of drafting - following in another driver’s slipstream to conserve energy.

This term was coined by me (Boraxe, Medivh realm) and is starting to catch on beyond just my guild and circle of friends, so I thought I'd throw it out there for mass consumption.

Cheers. :)

PVP = Player vs Pansyass Pretty Boy Logolas wannabe Emo-kiddy Alliance

Hate to break it to ya partner, but I switched to Alliance because all the Hordies around me were extremely immature little pipsqueaks saying "OMG WILL U PLZ JOIN MY GUIDEL!!!!1111" <-- notice the obvious misspelling of "guild" which I saw quite often.

I then discovered that these same cretins reside within the ranks of both Horde and Alliance, and unfortunately there's no getting away from them.

What I have learned, however, is it seems that (in STV at least) for every lowbie Hordie who's out questing there is at least one level 60+ Hordie. Often times you'll even come across a lowbie Horde who's there as nothing more than a trap. While Alliance has its guilds and all, just like Horde, at least on my server it seems that the Alliance tends to be more "every man for himself." I seldom see bands of Allys running together, but on the same hand I seldome come across any Horde that's not part of a group.... as if they can't kill Alliance without the help of other players who are higher levels than they are. This is just my observation, though. ;)

On my Horde toons, though, which are on another server, it was Alliance characters who were hiding outside Booty Bay just waiting to gank. On the server I'm on now, it's nothing but Horde hiding out there waiting to gank.

Buuuuuut in the end, it's just a game. ;)

kiting: the art of (out)running ahead of a mob/enemy & dragging it behind you. sometimes used to kill the target, sometimes to occupy it while others kill some other target.

cc: crowd control (sheep, root, sleep, stun, fear etc). one of those isn't all that controllable ;)

it's ****ed up beyond all Recognition (or Reason or Repair or Recovery or various other R-words)

hmm ****ed is getting censored on his forum, but you know what I mean, the word for a physical activity between two humans (most times 1 male and 1 female, but other combinations are possible)

in any case its NOT FLIPPED.... Its from the Second world War, soldier slang, and soldiers are not afraid to say ****, not even american soldiers

There's also a big list of terms and acronyms in this thread (http://forums.worldofwar.net/showthread.php?t=384987) in the Newcomers Forum, with a compiled list just recently posted.

Still, quite a few terms discussed here that weren't in the other discussion, so time for another update soon!

Unless you're on any server I've played. Hordies go there,
kill the quest givers, taunt the low level Alliance players (not pvp realm).
Every weekend, almost any time of day they are there - and many times seen going into (or out of) the instance.

Now, on a PVP server, yeah I can see it harder for the Hordies,
cuz if a group of 70th level uber-Allys are there, they don't have to wait for the hordie "to flag" like we do in our server to start kicking some cowman booty ...

LOL - too true on the "it's just a game"!

On my servers (i play on 3 of them currently),
the Alliance players are a lot of soloists, but when they team together,
YOU CAN ALWAY SEE THEM TOGETHER;
Hordies, otoh, you never see as a group - it's like some Horde tradition that only a low level can be visible, presumably alone, with his 70th level cronies waiting for ambush rather than fight fair and openly (esp. in STV).

Of course, it's always a dead giveaway when the low level is an idiot and is the group leader, and you see that on his pic so you know it's a trap.
