My first alt is a mining/skinning shadow priest, and without even really thinking about it he had 242g when I got him to ding 40. I spent the entire 39-40 level grinding rock elementals, and I never had to stop killing to drink, heal, or bandage the entire time. That's about 3 hours of killing without needing to stop.

That's when I had the idea to grind "money" with this guy. I have one guildmate who has been trying to grind to Grand Marshal for months. Another guildie is grinding TB rep, and another one is doing runecloth for a cross faction mount. I'm not interested in any of those things, but I do like to have a lot of money.

So I've decided to grind gold, and see if I can hit 10,000. I figure it's doable with a miner / skinner - and as a shadow priest I won't have downtime when I grind. I think the advantages of grinding $$ is that it doesn't have to be repetitive. I can switch between felcloth, essences, skins, leather, dragonscale....or as a priest I could easily grind instances (live strat comes to mind.) I don't think it will be as boring as the pvp grind, for example. My friend spends about 50 hours a week in the BG's. He hates it more than his job.

Once I've got the money, there are lots of things I could do. I could grind every profession to 300, then make the best BoP items and drop it for the next prof. I could send 500g to all my alts. I could buy epic mounts for close friends. I could buy AQ spell grimoires for all my alts and friends; the list goes on.

Do you know anyone who has done something like this? Any ideas how long it will take?

If he hates it more than his job, it has stopped being a game and stopped being fun.... he's PAYING to do somethig he hates.... I would recommend he either take a break, or change the pace a bit....

But yes, I have a guildmate who does NOTHING with his hunter except grind $$$. Its doable. He hasn't hit the 10k mark yet, but he is well on his way there.

of course theres the whats the point part of it.

its not like you can do much with all that gold, but i guess if you enjoy it great.

not really something i would enjoy, i only really go getting money when i need it, atm im trying to get enough gold so that when i hit exalted with AV ill be able to buy my TUF etc right away.

generally i dont have much gold.

so true.

all the better stuff for endgame comes from instanzes and is BoP. So you ll just sit on your gold and know nothing to do whit it except giving it all away... search a raiding guild :)

I can understand the view that there's not much you can do with it. I guess it depends on what kind of person you are.

I'm not a rich dude irl, but when I can afford to be generous to other people in real life it makes me happy. It's the same in the game.

I realize that all the best things in the game are BoP, but I still think there are plenty of things to spend the money on. Especially since I don't have enough time to raid. For instance:

-the BoE pieces of tier 1
-Darkmoon Faire trinkets / neck piece
-High level enchants
-High level recipes
-Runecloth for cross faction mount
-Flasks
-Spell grimoires (I need 3 from AQ for my lock. They are ~700g each on my server. 3 for me, 3 for my friend.)
-Professions. Most profs have good BoP items. I could afford to level the profession, make the BoP item, then drop that profession and do it again with a different one.
-Never, ever worrying about money on any of my characters.

When I think about all the time my friend is putting into PVP rank and what he's going to get out of it, it just seems to me like the time put into making $$ and what I'd get out of it outweighs his PVP rank rewards. And my grind won't be as boring.

I am in fact doing almost the exact same thing, only with some time spent questing. I also use the AH quite a bit to buy/sell. I find it much more lucrative than farming however after I put my auctions up i grind the rock elementals as well. I have found the best place to go on my server is the rock elementals in arathai. EE goes for about 1g each on my server and it drops about 1 in 10...

I plan to be at 10K by the time i hit 60.. i'm 39 and have around 1k now, however most of my $ comes from the AH buying/selling.

Forgot to mention, i am also a shadow priest doing skinning/mining. Although my mining is only at 15...i have neglected it. however after i get my mount at 40 i'm going to run around the nub zones and skill it up accordingly.
