View Full Version : Getting some rank in the Horde?

Okay, probably a painfully easy question, but please bear in mind I have not been playing long and have only recently started really getting into the game so I start getting some levels. Right now, I'm about to hit 20th and I would like to see if I could get my character some rank in the Horde (Scout, Grunt, whatever).

Call me dumb as a brick or painfully blonde, but how is this done? Should I go to Warsong Gulch maybe? (Just found the place yesterday running about). Can anyone give me some tips/pointers for getting some honor and rank and being a fine, upstanding member of the Horde? Am I high enough level to even think about it?

If you were level 19 I'd say go for it... but at level 20 you'll just end up frustrated. The reason being that WSG is divided by levels (10-19, 20-29, 30-39, etc.) 10-19 and 20-29 are generally twink fests and if you're playing on the low end of the level range you're just gonna get destroyed. I'd say to at least wait until you are lvl 25 then go to WSG. You're still gonna die a ton and be seriously out gunned but you might live long enough to pick up some HKs by proxy.

But yeah that is basically how you achieve rank... PvP to gain honor... best way is through Battlegrounds.

yeah since blizzard nerfed World pvp by introducing elite guards and those nasty zerging guards (you kill 2 another 2 pop up really fast)

10-39 you'll wanna do WSG (try to start at #6 ) .. basically its capture the flag. you can queue up from the red portal in north barrens or in any major city (just ask guards for the battlemaster) -- games last 10-30 minutes

40-59 you can do both wsg and AB (king of the hill sorta) .. personally i think AB is the most honor bg you can enter. games last 5-30 minutes

50-60 is AV which is all out war. :) games last 30mins-6hours

3 weekends of the month are dedicated Battlegrounds weekends. so one of the 3 weekends is WSG(or ab or av) weekend which means the honor gained is doubled.. and you even get honor for losing!

It's also possible to get PVP ranks in world PVP, but it's slow and you can't get as high as in battlegrounds. On the other hand, it's more real, and less contrived. If you're on a PVP server, you can head over to Duskwood, Redridge, or Ashenvale and find some people your level to kill. If you're on a Normal server, you're stuck with battlegrounds unless you can get someone to attack you.

it goes AV -> WSG -> AB -> Break .. i think now we are on the break part.

kill aliance, do the battlegrounds (warsong gulch, arathi basin, altarac valley) objectives, win battlegrounds

Drat, just made 20th today. Should have tried Warsong last night. Oh well, maybe I can get some of my higher ranking guildmates to give me some cover or something, and then take a swing at it. Or just be patient and wait another 5 or 6 levels. *sigh*

Darn it though, I want some insignia! I want some rank! Why? No idea other than because I think it would be cool to be Scout Takira:grin: .

if you start your pvp early in bgs besides the honor u will also earn reputation with them which can mean no work epics at 60 and a blue sword every 10 levels that is easy to get. I know a pvp rogue and the benefits of being exalted with all the bgs are endless.

i got my first few ranks just from casual world pvp, before i hit 60 and started battlegrounding on a almost full game time basis, if would just join in on the barrens attacks, then a bit later the tarren mill fights, then over to the arathi highlands fights, lateley alliance love to attack bloodhoofso action there as well.

they still happen so you can still join in on them, at least they do on my server.

as others have said BGs did kind of kill world pvp but it can still be found

Just in case you want to know Wild Soul: Honor Kills (HK) have little to no effect on the amount of honor you receive from PvP. Think of honor as a sort of PvP xp. You get honor from dealing damage to the enemy or healing a friendly. More honor equals a higher rank, but not in the same way as XP does for levels. Rank is calculated once a week, and (if I remember correctly) it is based on how many precent of the total honor achieved on your side you achieved.

But be warned, it requires honor just to maintain a rank. So if you do not PvP at all one week, you may loose your rank or part of your progress towards the next rank (this does not apply to Scout/Privat, you can never loose that rank). This means that unless you are a very fast leveler you may not be able to get much done in a battleground in certain weeks. Also I think that gaining or maintaining a rank requires less honor the higher your level.
