Hello

I do not post much but read the forums almost everyday.

Know my question is i know that CoS and CoE nolonger can produce neagtive resistances on the target, but i was under the impression that item could still do this, is this true?

If it is not true what are the benefits of having the regative to resistances items?

CoS and CoE don't, however the items that "reduces your targets resistances by x" can give negative resistances.

I'm sorry to raise the dead here, but in my searching for a spell penetration question i stumbled upon this and it incited another question:

the negative resistance, is that like a debuff sort of a weakness to a certain school of magic? Like a debuff on us that increases the damage of whatever?, or is it on a different damage scale such as +damage?

edit: another question sry

will spell penetration send the target into negative resistance?

As far as I remember, Spell Penetration is what minus resists got renamed to, so yes. It adds damage but I'm not sure of the exact mechanic/formula.

Penetration is only about reducing your target's resistance. 10 Penetration reduces your targets resistance by 10, so to see how penetration works we need to know about resistance.

6.67 resistance gives a theoretical 100% mitigation from that spell school, although the true cap is at 75% average mitigation (5 resistance per level).

Assuming that you are L70, 10 resistance on the target would reduce your average spell damage by 2.1%. I don't think there has ever been a conclusive answer on wheither penetration can make resistance negative.

Some mobs do have a negative resistance. It doesn't show as a debuff. If you were 70 and the target has -10 resistance, it would mean that every 2.1% of your hits would be doubled. The other spells would just deal damage as normal normal.

and here i was thinking that there are no negative resists, unless the mob has these from the beginning like the drakoids in bwl.

or was that only in pvp ?

You used to be able to use Spell Penetration to get things into -ve resistance with a corresponding increase in your dmg.

However -ve resistances are no longer possible, the lowest resistance you can have is 0 including on mobs.

Some mobs will be given a vulnerability to damage of certain types, this not the same as -ve resistance and is purely a modifier to the dmg done of that type.
