you gotta do a quest in BRD. One of 7 dwarves give it to you.

The quest is easy. You have to have some truesilver, some gold and I think star rubies. I can't remember how many, I just took a whole stack of each and was fine. You pay the tribute, then you can smelt DI ore into bars (8 ore per bar). But you can only smelt the DI at the Dark Forge, which is a bit further into BRD, near the entance to MC.

Remember, talk to the guy (he is on the right as you come in if I remember right) before the group start the 7 dwarfs onslaught.

20 Gold Bars, 2 Star Rubies and 10 Truesilver bars apparently.

Those are the correct mats and you talk to Gloom'Rel to learn. He's the second ghost on the right in the room with 7 dwarves and make sure you talk to him before you initiate the fight. To get to the forge, after the room with seven dwarves you go through the door and make a right. You'll see a bridge with 3 fire elementals... after you kill them look to your left and you'll see a little metal walk way with another fire elemental. He's standing right in front of the forge.

Also across the bridge is the entrance to MC and to the left of the portal is a piece of rock (just mouse around until you see a gear) that gives you the core fragment you need for MC attunement. (I know that's not trade info but it's easy to miss and you're right there and if your groups consist mainly of PuGs you don't want to waste the opporotunity).

Is there any way to backtrack into BRD if you're attuned to MC? I've tried a number of times and have never made it to the end of BRD to learn DI smelting.

I'm not even sure its worthwhile, to tell you the truth. DI bars don't sell for that much on my server. 1 DI bar goes for about 8g, and a stack of 10 DI ore goes for 6-7g.

Oh and before you ask, I paid some money grubbin' capitalist 10g to summon me to the end of BRD to get my core fragment. They had already killed the ghost on the way there, so I couldn't go back and learn =[

There is a shortcut to the area to learn to smelt... but it would be good to have 2 healers in your party since it involves some lava swimming.

Basically, it involves dropping down drom the Black Anvil down to the side of the lava pool and skirting it along until you get to where you have to swim... I have only done it once, so I can't be more specific. Ask around... I am sure there are some folks who know the way on your server.

Can you actually do that for learning how to smelt? I know you can do it for attunement but I'm trying to picture the layout and path to the Room of 7 Dwarves and I can't think of anyway to get out of the lava to there....

(I'm thinking as far back to the bar)... and there is no way to get in there from the lava... then you run down the otherside opposite of the coffer room... which leads to Ambassador Flamelash... and then the Room of Dwarves is shortly after him... I don't remember anyway to get up from the lava into those chambers and cooridors... I thought you could just come up where the core frag was.

The area you smelt is just after the room with the 7 dwarfs... you have to fight your way back from the molten bridge... from my memory... only done that way once.... But according to the maps with Atlas... shouldn't be a problem. If you go the other way, you are on your way to the Lyceum.

If you swim the lava and get to the enterance of molten core, you can't backtrack to the room of the seven, there's a door that closes. It's the same door that prevents every rogue and druid out there from stealthing attunement, at least if they don't know how to swim the lava.

Ok... I didn't remember the door... make sense though....
