Basically my first character has been my testing of WoW. I really like it, in fact I am thinking of restarting a new toon of the same class but difference race(going from gnome to human because of faction issues in the end game). However I have managed to train my little gnome up to 225 in both tailoring and enchanting, now my main concern is that if I drop him all the time invested will be lost. I was thinking of starting a new account just so that I can carry on using the gnome as an enchant mule since you can not post them. If I do keep him on I want to know if I can get him the higher level recipes all the way to skill 300 or does he need to loot the patterns?

The only reason that I am thinking of not having enchanting on my new main is simply because it does not seem worth it in term of time/money invested vs reward.... There is no destinction like gnomish vs goblin so every single enchanter will be rolling on every single pattern and tbh the only reason i do it was to enchance the gear for my friends/guildies. I may just rely on others to do this for me in the future...

I was thinking of Engineering for my new main as it seems cool as hell, really individual and useful tools but not sure for second profession. Alchemy seems useful because of transmutes, tailoring is ok but I would prob only want the entire skill for a single recipe, robe of the archmage.

Any advice is fully appreciated :)

Many do, but many do not. I have 2 lv 35 artisan alts, one for engineering/Alchemy and the other for Enchanting/Tailoring. All of them can be maxed with available plans/schematics and from the trainers, though enchanting is doubtlessly the most difficult, as the Artisan trainer is within Uldaman, and for a lv 35 (which, btw, is min level to get past 225, fyi) this is not possible without a helpful group or a 60 or 2.

dont know about tailoring (i dropped it cuz it makes sh!t for money) but i got to 300 enchanting at lvl 48. not one formula i used was BoP, mainly because at 48 (now 50) i wasnt high enough lvl to even get in the instances that drop high lvl formulae. not saying it was easy, but it is possible.

Not all top patterns are BOP. Things like Titanic Leggings, which probably represent the pinnacle of Armorsmithing, are definitely not BOP

Some are BoP but the majority of useful patterns are not.

And those patterns require in terms of mats, are most of the time, astronomical in terms of cost and effort to procure, that you might just as well get some BOP weapon/armor instead.

Generally the BoP patterns come from vendor rewards for having certain rep with different factions. My current (and pretty much only) money maker is the Cenerian Herb Bag. It required friendly with Cenarian Circle. It was BoP.
