Can you cancel an event?

Is there a way to stop an event from firing? Specifically, I'm looking to have the LOOT_OPENED event not fire based on various criteria, such as to stop accidental looting while someon in the group is in combat (without the obvious 'switch to master looter' idea). Is there some way to tell wow to ignore this specific firing of this event? Or at the very least, not actually open the corpse.

I'm guessing not, but thanks in advance for any help or thoughts.
