View Full Version : The disappointed Tailor

I did tailoring with my Hunter...laugh all you want, I know my foolish error. However, its at 291 and I've put so much into it already; so therefore I cannot bring myself to get rid of it.

However, even looking towards 300, there seems to be very little hope for a tailor :(.

So heres the question, should I drop it? and if so, what should I pick up...keep in mind I also have 300 skinning.

If I should keep it however, what group of people (Thorium, Dawn, etc) should I get rep with?

If you get rep with cenarion circle you can craft the herb bags, other than that I dnot know.

However I have seen some tasty tailor recipes (blue and purple) hanging around lately.

Plus if you run BRD and get some of the fire resist recipies (theres one back one im thinking of) your guild will love you.

If you want to drop it tho think about what else you would want to do.

Without more info no one can really advise you what you should pick up.

Do you want to get money? be helpful to your guild? Do you want to PvP better?

I think these are questions you should think about then make a decision.

As a Hunter, I dropped Leatherworking at skill 265ish, and that was a tradeskill I could use! If I were you, I would drop tailoring so fast my mouse might combust!

What's your other profession?

Seems like you could be making a nice steady income making high-end bags alone. Enouth to justify taking it up as a hunter in the first place? Probably not, but something to think about before you drop it with skill in the 290s.

If you have skinning as well, then runecloth bags are practically investment free, save the rune thread at 45s per bag. Mooncloth sells well too. Both recipes can be found at Everlook vendors.

Yup, 14 and 16 slot bags usually sell well on my server, and with the new patch coming up the demand for mooncloth will only increase... So, if you're looking to make money don't give up on tailoring just yet!

Not to mention 20 and 24-slot herb bags. Cenarion Herb Bags go for 20+g on my server and sell fast. Of course, you need morrowgrain and purple lotus for those, so if you have an herbo that can hook you up for a cut of the profits, this could still be very profitable for you.

Both morrowgrain and purple lotus are easy to find. Just hunt around Ungoro for soil for morrowgrain and any ruins in tanaris or STV for purple lotus.

I found going to moonwells every 4 days to be a huge pain in the rectum, I dropped tailoring on my priest as soon as I hit 300 and made my beloved Truefaith Vestments (long long since retired). Picked up Herb/Alchemy, which I later switched to Mining/Alchemy and never looked back since.

u switrched to mining/alchemy? that is some interesting combination! so u probably sell the minings and buy herbs to make potions....hm....really interesting..

Two words - Arcanite Transmutes.

Which you can only do every 2 days and, frankly, there are so many spamming the service on city /2 that the going price is only 4-5g or so. 4-5g profit every 48 hours (not to mention having to whore yourself on /2) just ain't worth it.

OTOH, Cenarion herb bags sell for 25g minimum on my AH. Even Runecloth 14-slotters go for 3g+/ea and you can crank those out. Maybe if you genuinely only play a single toon, tailoring is not a great choice. However, as part of an overall moneymaking enterprise spread across multiple toons on the same server, a 300/tailor seems like a real boon to me.

Don't get me wrong, having a 300/alchemist is also a real boon, but I suspect that there is a lot more money to be made outside of the arctrans than in it.

my main (51 pally) was enchanting/tailoring till about lvl 42 or 43. then i dropped tailoring for mining. my mining is at only about lvl 100 or so and ive already made more from that than i ever did with tailoring. course i also hit 300 ench at lvl 48 (wouldnt recommend that in hindsight) so i got decent money from that, even though i still dont have any of the really popular formulae.

bottom line, tailoring is a waste IMHO. (on my server at least)

For alchemy, I vastly prefer Transmute Undeath to water any day. Any alchemist can learn arc transmutes but only those willing to fork out money/time to grind rep for the recipe can do other transmutes.

As to tailoring vs mining, it depends on how you view your current toon in terms of money making. For tailoring, if you follow the market trends, you can make a profit by virtually moving back and forth the mailbox and AH. For alliance, it's even easier, since SW already has a moonwell at the park, making mooncloth a stable income. If your toon is still grinding to 60, mining would be a better choice as you are out in the field most of the time.

I hate enchanting though. I am not one of those who like advertising myself at the AH bridge. If your customers are reasonable people, fine. But I have people not paying for my enchants, or don't believe the prices of a crusader when they don't bring their own mats.

Might want to see if you can get the Big Blue Soulpouch recipe...

That oughta earn you money.

Just buy the ingredients on the AH and put your item up there, too. 5-8 g per Arcanite transmutes every 48 hours for 30 seconds of work. Not bad, really.

i just tell them the prices are what they are. i also give them a mats list. very often they go look up the mats on AH and then pst me saying "ok, ill buy it". this is especially true if you use the volume over cost theory. sell a lot for smaller profit and you can make more money than if you sell few for a large profit.
