Jewelcrafting skill increased by 15.
Is this going to be a new profession in the expansion?

Welcome back Atoz. You must have been away for some time. FYI, the Horde are getting Blood Elves ;)

That is correct. Jewelcrafters will be able to make trinkets and stuff and also enchant-like gems which will be used in the new socketed items.

Oh come on, unless Blizzard has done something fantastic with the profession it will be similar to other crafting professions, enchanting for one.
Plus unless you get a rare jewel pattern or something it wont be that profitable because every toon and their dog will take the profession up when the expansion comes out.l

I wish Pandas where the new alliance race with jewel crafting

that makes sence... now that I look at it, we have two slots for rings and one necklace. I wonder if the jewels are going to be wearable only by jewelcrafter, sort of like the Engineering trikets can only worn by engineer.

I don't know how much i'll like all the "socketed" type of gear.
Are we going to have things like
Staff of O mighty healing, 8 sockets open. Each socket I install a Gem of O mighty healing that is + 55 healing then I enchant the staff too?
I'm not sure how this is going to work, it sounds like an augmenting knockoff from eq.
Once you get a piece of armor/weapon you are just getting started you have to go out and get jewels for all the sockets..and or enchant it. I guess this might keep some tier 3 people from being bored as they can sink a bunch of time into rare jewels etc for their sockets.

rgirty, you never played Diablo or Diablo 2 as a child did you...??
My guess is maybe a minning sort of thing for the jewels. Probably minning and Jewelcrafting will go hand in hand with each other.

I'm excited about the new profession, different rings, necklaces and trinkets to wear. Get your hands on the socketed items and add a jewel or two to boost stats.

I never played diablo in any flavor. I had a kid who worked for with me once who wouldn't do anything but play diablo 2 even at work. He got fired shortly after and we nicked him El' Diablo.
Never looked like much fun to me.

Ah come on! You gotta play those games, Warcraft 1,2, and 3 plus expansions. Diablo 1 and 2 plus expansions. Starcraft...
Diablo is actually a pretty good game. That co-worker of yours took it to an extreme but it shouldn't shun you from giving it a try. Those games really made Blizzard who they are today and are the reason you play World of Warcraft at this very minute.
In Diablo there were tons of socket'd items and you gained jewels from chests and monsters. Each gem had a different property to it and adding it to a weapon or armor did different things. Usually more fire/thunder/holy/etc. dmg to weapons or more resistance for amror.
Not to mention playing the Warcraft games really does fill in the blanks when playing WoW.

No, i never played any of them.
Someone mentioned something about Lore a few times to me but I really don't know anything about any of the storylines or any history really about WoW at all.
I have played a LOT of eq which basically taught me how to play a MMO and how to play in groups, aggro management assisting the tank/crowd control etc etc. But i know nothing about the storyline. Basically for me the game functions like this.
I kill monsters, get xp items and level up. Rather this be solo or group.
I stop by the auction house, buyout a bunch of auctions and relist them.
I go kill some more monsters, get some more items and xp.
Check my mail and collect all the cash.
Is there some site that basically gives all the lore about warcraft?
In the warcraft storyline are 1/2 the char's ne hunters or rogues?

The point was that Diablo had socketed items before Everquest implemented augments.

No suprise there. It sounds rather interesting after all this discussion.
I'm interested to know if you will be able to place gems in a boe item then sell it?
I have started to do something similiar to this with enchanting. I'll buy a mediocre blue twink item 5 or 10g then place an enchant on it. It will sell better that way and i'll price it to get my enchant money back. For nicer twink items i'll throw on a fiery really helps them to sell, less hassle for twinks and in the end that is what they are looking for.

the #1 reason why i'm not taking jewelcrafting....
everyone will have it and the competition to sell the enchant/service will be so fierce prices will be insanely low.
instead.. take up collecting the jewel resources :)
