Try copying all of the files to your harddrive into a folder off the disk and installing from there. I've had problems loading the game from cd before.

I have the Same Error. Error code 38. Infact i'm looking at one right now. The installer was unable to read the file "<unknown>". This error may be caused by problems with the media or drive at --for example, a scratched or dirty CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, hard drive corruption, or a networking problem while downloading the installer. (The data being read was "Repack-MPQ\Data#texture.MPQ\Item\TextureComponents\ArmLowerTexture\Mail_D_02Blue_Bracer_AL_U.blp", and the error code was 38.) If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (MPQFile::Read) I have actually purchased a new copy and used my cousins and roomates copy. I have done all the workarounds that I can find on blizzard tech site. I literally spent almost 10 hours one saturday messing around with this horse ****. Someone if you know a REAL workaround to this problem please post!

This isn't much of a workaround for Error code 38 directly. But i could not this game installed and we tried something a bit unusual. We copied the installed game from my roomates computer over to mine and it runs just fine. You of course will have to have you own activated account. But i am playing fine now. No there is not a cd key issue like we thought there would be.

I'm only asking because after one week of trying to load the game on a brand new MAC G5 system we gave up. We sent error and system info to WOW tech and so far nothing is happening. We returned the game and tried another set of disks and same issues happened. If anyone has a G5 system that is maxed out on hardware and has a happy ending to this madness please leave a note. It will be very appreciated. Thank you. One additional note here: there was nothing else running at the time of any install attempts, we disabled Airport and all networking components tried the install on two different hard drives, both with plenty of space, we loaded the game directly to the drives and the install still craps out everytime. I'm sorry to say it but this should not be this time consuming and frustrating. Someone did not do their homework at WOW on this one.

I have a maxed out G4 Powermac dual 1.25GHz and after trying to install two sets of discs (using DVD-ROM and Copying to harddrive) four days in a row, all day, all night. I was finally successful. I downloaded the patch and then when Blizzard Updater started to install the patch, I got stuck and errored out on the terrain file. I have since uninstalled and reinstalled countless times, it is now my 6th day trying to run the game on my machine and I've had zero luck.
You think for the amount of people that are playing this game, and the amount of money they spend on it that Blizzard would actually fix THIS problem, NOT the in-game bugs. I've heard nothing but "Blizzard takes pride in the fact that their games are always mac and pc compatable"
So maybe they should stop selling bunk ass game discs and put in a bit more effort. Not to mention that their Technical Support team is a little on the weak side. Monday-Friday, how about 24/7? This IS the largest internet based game on the planet we are talking about.
But yeah man, this game makes me upset about owning a mac.
My brother's $400 dell can run it, but my fully loaded beast of a mac cannot. PSHH
Best of luck.

I've had ther terrain.mpq problem as well as the error 38 problem on two different computer.... My solutionwas to download the full game... or even the trial version and use my cd-keys to unlock the game and start playing...
