this is for those of you not fortunate enough to get in their site:

The tracker used by the Blizzard Downloader to manage download peers was unable to be contacted. This indicates that either the tracker is currently unavailable to be used or your internet connection is suffering from a restriction or connection issue.

It is first recommended that you visit the Realm Status and Technical Support forums for information on the current tracker status. If the tracker is currently unavailable it will be necessary to wait until it becomes operational before downloading the patch. If the Blizzard Downloader is working for others on the forums, your internet connection may be restricted or experiencing connection issues. Please try troubleshooting your internet connection through the steps below.

The downloader may have been unable to open an http connection to the tracker over ports 3724, 6112, or 6881-6999. This can happen if the computer is not currently connected to the internet, or if outgoing traffic on this port is blocked for some reason. Below are some possible solutions.

* Firewall Configuration and Troubleshooting*

If you have a firewall, be sure that it is set up to allow for outgoing connections on ports 3724, 6112, and 6881-6999 for the TCP (also called TCP/IP) protocol. More information on how to open ports for some popular firewalls can be found on our this page. If your firewall is not listed there or you need more help, please refer to your firewall documentation or contact the manufacturer.

Important note: Please be aware that many popular firewalls will become very restrictive to traffic when 'disabled', including shutting down all traffic on some ports. Please be sure any firewalls you have installed are enabled and configured correctly in order to use the downloader effectively.

* Internet Service or Network Provider Issues

You may wish to contact your ISP or network provider to make sure that they are not blocking http connections on ports 3724, 6112, and 6881-6999. Some corporate or campus networks may have a restriction on what traffic is acceptable. In the event of such a restriction, you may be redirected to a direct download. Due to the nature of direct downloads, you may experience a slow transfer if redirected in this way.

* Closing Background Applications

Try the instructions on our Closing Background Applications page, then try restating the downloader.

* Visit the Technical Support Forums

If your problem persists, please visit the World of WarCraft Technical Support Forum for further assistance.

* Patch Mirror Sites

In addition, we also have links to external websites that are hosting the patch as a stand alone file. Please remember, that if you choose this method, then you will most likely run into the same issues the next time we patch the game. The mirror sites can be accessed here.

* Blizzard does not offer direct support for firewalls. The settings provided are suggested settings only. If you continue to have issues while a firewall is installed, please contact the firewall manufacturer.

Blizzard can go and screw themselves, I have actually installed my patch finally, but the slow rate was their fault, and nothing to do with our damn firewalls.

Sometimes it would say "you appear to have a firewall" and I'd click on the advanced button (forgot the actual name of the button) and it would bring up all the connections and ips and ports it's trying to download from.

Whenever I got that message, i'd look there, and see blizzard trying to download from a different port than is in their range of ports they say to open in their documents.

So ... either all their docs have been out of date for months now, or something else screwy is going on.

Either way, i never opened those extra ports. Instead i paid for a mirror site subscription. Only $11 a year for no hassle every few weeks? more than worth it.
