Soo I've been playing on a trial account (courtesy of FilePlanet if anyone is interested) and decided to order the game. I've been playing a wee Night Elf Hunter and enjoying setting my cat on things while I shoot from a far. I must say the battlegrounds (Warsong..something) are lots of fun despite my numerous deaths

Anyway, my sister's decided she's gonna play a human rogue and I was thinking about a character that could complement that. Should I stick with a hunter? I'm wanting to play on alliance probably as a night elf or human - but what class to pick?! Mages seem a bit flimsy to me and I don?t think I want to be healing all day as a priest. Druids look like an interesting and versatile class but do they excel in any of their roles?

Anyone have any suggestions? Or should I just go flip a coin?

id either stick with your hunter, or roll a paladin. the hunter can do amazing DPS, rivaled only by the mage and rogue, whereas the pally can tank/semi-DPS/heal if needed. trust me, you'll find a spot where you'll wish you could heal. granted pally DPS isnt great, but you just cant kill them. the combination of high armor and healing means you have probably the best survivability in the game.

Roll a Druid.

You can stealth together with the rogue, you can do damage together with the rogue, you can tank for the rogue, you can heal the rogue.

All that and waffles.

I'm a druid, and my son really appreciates it when I'm grouped with his lock...If I am stealthed when he is attacked by alli in a pvp situation, the alli of often sorry when I appear from nowhere...And, I can heal the lock...and I can tank....And...And...

Agreed. Druid = the win button, in small groups. I get asked a dozen times a night to do my current level appropriate instances.

"Need Healer! Hey, you heal right?"

"Need tank! Oh, can you be a bear for us?"

And if at any point I'm not needed I can drop back and be backup healer/buff/DPS, and who doesn't love combat res?!

I can't even believe more people don't play druids, they're ridiculously fun and complimentary to virtually every group. Plus you get 30% faster movement at lvl 20, and 40% faster movement at lvl 30.

For bonus points, for me, druids solo better than any other class: light enemies, go cat for rogue-ishly quick beatings, for a prolongued battle or world pvp, it's bear form, and when you're done you heal yourself, no pots/bandages/reagents required.

So I'm on a bit of a Druid honeymoon... so what?

Edit: Plus the waffles.

I also agree, Druid. I love my druid more then any of my other char. Hunters are also fun and so are pallys. Just remember you can be all of them, but I would start with a druid because you learn about a lot of the other classes while cleaning up at ah because you can solo and become a very good herb and alchemy guy! I have a hunter, pally, warrior and a mage. One class that I have not really enjoyed playing is the rogue.

PyreFly.. If you like playing with the cat, you might want to try a Warlock. I play one (Got to level 59, then my PC died.. currently waiting on replacement parts to arrive  ) and find it a lot of fun :)

Well most of you seem to give the thumbs up to druids so I think I'll give that a shot :) Now...is it possible to travel from the night elf start area to the human one or vice vera when you first start? Could I die, run around as a wisp and get resurected in Stormwind(?) or will I have to wait til I level up a bit?

Cheers for the advice everyone

Well if you die, then no matter where you rez you will end up at the graveyard where you died (if that makes sense) - I guess otherwise world travel would be far too easy.

You could see if a 'lock could summon you to Stormwind. Or maybe a mage could teleport you?

But you could rez at another spirit healer, right? It'd be a long walk, but it seems doable.

I recently escorted a lvl 8 human to Darnassus, it was actually very easy. One death -> I rez'd him.

Incidentally, if your sister just rolled a Night Elf rogue, you could avoid the entire mess. Plus, Night Elves get a bonus to stealth, per their shadowmeld ability.

Shadowmeld is a spell that turns you invisible unless you move, not a bonus to stealth.

Aside from that, I can personally only support the cheer for druids.
My main character is a NE druid and I have played the class since the closed beta and am still not tired with it. :)

Well I'm still playing on a trial account at the moment and decided to take a wee trip to Stormwind. I had a couple of deaths (due to some snappy crocodiles ) but other than that it was a successful adventure  took a trip on the tram from Ironforge - very cool!

Actually - it's a boost to stealth as well; passive - worth roughly half a level iirc.

And, happy hunting, Pyrefly =)

do You Have To Pay To Try It Out On FilePlanet?

Blizzard Europe currently offers a free 10-day trial that does not even force you to sign up with Fileplanet. I couldn't find anything stating that the offer is restricted to Europeans so you can check out the teaser site here (http://teaser.wow-europe.com/).

As to Shadowmeld: Yes, there is indeed the passive aspect which gives you a +5 bonus on stealth - which I completely forgot about. I stand corrected.
In fact, even the spell tooltip says "Night Elf Rogues and Druids with Shadowmeld are more difficult to detect while stealthed or prowling.".

Cheers.

Yeah I noticed the European site had a trial too - after I downloaded the American client. Not too bothered though, will start afresh when the game arrives in the post :) Oh and no, you don't need to get a paid account with fileplanet for the trial.

I'll let my sister know about the shadowmeld thing, could just come down to looks though :p

Correction: Cat Form (obtained at L20) doesn't move any faster than normal. BUT if you invested your talents in feral then you can take the first Feline Swiftness-talentpoint for +15% and take the second at L21 for +15% more (=+30%).

That makes you as fast as a hunter with Aspect of the Cheetah (a spell that they get at L20) when outdoors. You'll still be slow as molasses indoors though (which can be a pain).

Yes, sorry, you are totally correct. I sort of forget that it's a talent because it's such a given. I will say that the indoor thing doesn't really bother me.
