Hey, I have a new player, in fact, I haven't got the game yet due to exams. I will be playing next tuesday so before I make a character, I would like to know which race/class is exceptional for grinding? I know mining and skinning are good, but I am not too sure.

Can someone kindly direct me to a helpful page?

thanks

Race matters little.

If you're going to be mostly grinding for your materials (skinning) then you want a class that kills very quickly and has little downtime, so as to maximise your skinning per hour. A rogue is a good choice.

If you're going to be mostly gathering for your materials (mining, or herbalism) then you probably want a class that moves about quickly. Since you don't have to kill anything, you increase your gathering per hour most by speeding up the bits in between deposits. A druid is probably a good choice, what with travel form, feline swiftness, and aquatic form. A druid also has the advantage of being able to stealt to those hard to get places, such as the depths of the bug hives in Silithus.

Of course, if you make a feral druid, then he can kill with a respectable speed when you're skinning, and travel with a good speed when you're gathering.

Since druids can only be Tauren and Nightelf, depending on which faction you are on, then I guess your choice is laid out for you.

Druids are I think the lowest DPS class, pick whatever you want you'll make enough in the end...

druids are the second lowest. pallys are the lowest. trust me, my main is a pally. takes me forever to kill stuff, although i can take on a bunch of guys and still expect to win.

to answer the original question, id go with a hunter. mainly cuz i dont like rogues, and druids dont seem all that cool to me. and hunters have some damn good DPS (lower than rogue/mage but still very good) and pretty good survivability.

as for making money, my hunter alt is lvl 33 atm and is mining/herbalism. he makes AWESOME money without much effort at all. the whole switching trackers thing isnt that big a deal as some people seem to thin kit is.

i agree ... mining/herbalism is very lucrative and at some point you'll start to get a feel for when to switch trackers ... like flat grassy areas obviously switch to Herb tracking ... I even picked up the Gatherer addon but found that I really don't rely on it too much

Get with the times - you too oramac.

Love patch gave feral druids considerable grinding speed. Until you get epixxed out, a rogue will not grind faster.

So not true. Especially in terms of grinding speed, only hunters and warlocks can level faster and rogues are about tied with feral druids. Also, as pointed out, I cannot imagine a better class for playing with the gathering professions. Travel form that is the equal or superior to anything in the game along with solid catform dps *and* the ability to stealth makes getting to and from choice herbs and veins very easy compared to all other classes, rogues included.

Feral druids only become a bit gimped in endgame, and that is mostly due to the lack of quality gear.

Do you really want to form the game around gathering professions and making money? Heh, I don't care if I'm wrong, but there's really no point in argueing, be what you want. Who cares if you grind faster in relative time you're gonna' make enough for mount. =P

My main is a rogue and it is awesome for farmin. Leveled it skinning/mining. Rogues are especially useful if you mining, cuz u can sneak into places without having to kill everything, and have SAP and Vanish if you don't wanna fight.

But the ultimate class to farm stuff with is a mage. I have a lvl 60 mage and she is the ultimate for grinding. One word - AOE. Killing so much stuff so fast is crazy. There are some AOE grind spots that will yield huge amounts of sellable items, such as runecloth, elemental earth, etc. Plus mages are one of the few classes that can solo most lvl 60 melee elites with ease. Frost kiting ftw. Oh and mages make their own food and water so u never have to buy any.

I suggest a priest.
You can play shadow priest and grind pretty quickly through levels and for materials. Also when this gets boring *and it will* you won't have a hard time at all getting in groups and instances.

A priest will have a much easier time getting a group and who knows you may enjoy it they are pretty highly sought after for guilds and endgame.

I know you didn't ask about which char to pick to play overall, however I think a priest can fill the grinding roll and be easy to pickup groups with.

But boring as hell in end game.
Health bar monitor is mostly all you are.

I mean sure you usually make the group live but ive got a level 60 priest and its boring as bat****.

But to answer the actual question priests are about the worst class to grind for money, especially holy priests.

Shadow priest for grinding is a very good choice with almost zero downtime from spirit tap. But then again, I don't think it's the best gathering class (pre-mount) as they have no stealth.
