My wife recently leveled to 300 alchemy on her toon. Over the weekend I was able to pickup "transmute undeath to water" and "transmute earth to life" both recipe's very cheaply.
Since we are in our 40's and haven't had a need for any or either of these essences could someone tell me why they are so expensive and what the use is?
I can understand aracanite transmute, and we do a lot of those. I just am not sure why you would transmute undeath to water, or earth to life as they all seem to be roughly the same price on the ah.
Thanks!

Not sure for everything else but I know this... Essence of Undeath is very common on my server. If you quest in the plaguelands... running Strat and Scholo multiple times you're going to pick up a lot of undeath (relative to fire, water or air). Until I found out where to farm Essence of Water though it was uncommon.
The difference in price on the AH was 15g (now down to about 9g) for a single essence of water and about 75 silver for essence of undeath. I don't know what all it's used for but I know I need essence of water for the spell power enchant (which is why I needed to know where to farm it).
Also certain essences are required for in demand high end enchants and armor recipies like Robe of the Void (which needs like 12 essence of fire or something) need them as well.

and when some pieces were not sold, i lost 18 silver on deposit
Try enchanting mats, there isn't a deposit on them and people are constantly getting enchants.
Works even better if you are an enchanter, simply buy up most/all mats for say... fiery enchant. Will enchant fiery for you w/your mats for free!
I use the AH for my enchanting mats bank. I price my mats a little higher, if someone buys them then profit for me. If i need some for an enchant i can just cancel auction. Works a lot better than using up bank space.

One of those item databases you can't link to on these forums should have a list of items that need those Essences if you do a search for them. They're used in a variety of high-end recipes and sought after for good reason.
The disparity comes from the fact that the Essences to be transmuted are usually found in droves from instance runs while the Essences that are more sought after can only be found through tedious farming.

Thank you and I apologize for my total mispost in the wrong thread in the middle there.
