Installing Mods
Installation of UI/Mod addon files is actually very simple. When you download a file the author usually keeps the original file path where they should be stored to function. For example...
c:\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\Name of UI
However this is not always the case so the best thing to do is unzip or unrar the file (depending on the compression tool used by the author) to a temp directory.
Once you have the file unzipped there will be a folder, usually called the mods name. Copy this folder and paste it into the directory...
c:\Your World of Warcraft Directory\Interface\Addons\
All custom mods have to sit inside this Addons directory for WoW to pick them up. Anywhere else and they simply won't load when you start WoW.
Can I automatically install mods?
We have created a very cool tool called UICentral which will not only install mods from the site automatically but you can also check for new versions! Groovy! Head to... http://wowui.incgamers.com/?p=mod&m=2106 and download it.
Note: We are working on a new version right now and there are a few bugs in the cirrent version still.
Make sure Mods Are Enabled
Many of these mods let you know they're loaded in the chat screens as soon as you enter the game so it's always good to look there as soon as you join to see what has been loaded. You need to check this because Blizzard has included version checking on mods.
If you have downloaded a mod which has not been updated since the latest patch WoW will detect that this is the case and disable the addon. You need to enable the mod to work by checking the 'Load out of dat addons' box in addons screen in-game. Remember, not all mods need updating following a patch and some may still function perfectly well so you can always try enabling out of date addons if the mod you use has not yet been updated.
Addon Packs
Some files come as packs which are a collection of mods all put together. Again, follow the above procedure making sure you are placing the pack inside the Addons folder.
Always Remeber!
The trick to remember is that these mod files must sit inside the c:\Your World of Warcraft Directory\Interface\Addons\ directory to function.
Removing UI/Mods
Removing a mod is as simple as adding them. Just delete the mod folder directory within the Addons directory.
For example...
c:\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\Delete me mod.
Can I back-up my mods and mod Settings?
Yes you can thanks to our handy tool UIBackup. Check http://wowui.incgamers.com/?p=mod&m=2699 for all the details
Where can I find Blah Mod?
Always search http://wowui.incgamers.com for the latest mods and for mods you are looking for specifically. If you can't find it hit the mod forums here and ask.
Have anything to add? Post it below...

how do I "unzip" files?
Rushster
02-08-2006, 03:45 PM
Download and install winzip from winzip.com :)
how do I "unzip" files?
If you are using Windows XP, just double click on the .zip file as Windows XP has support for .zip files built into the OS.
Other versions of Windows need a third program such as WinRAR which opens .zip and .rar files, (Shareware), 7Zip which will open .zip, .rar and .7z files among others (Free, open source) or Stuffit Expander, which opens .zip, .sit, and other files (Free). Note on Stuffit Expander: it just opens the files, if you need to zip files then look at WinRAR or 7Zip.
If you are useing a Mac, use Stuffit to open .zip files.

Without knowing the nature of your issue, it would be difficult to help you. However, here are a few things to check:
1. Install Location - Make sure you have the mod installed in the correct path. Rushter's entry (the 1st in this thread) has some excellent detailed steps to follow.
2. Turn on the Add-On - When you login, and you see your character list, in the lower left side there is an add-on's button. Make sure you have your mod enabled.
3. When all else fails.... - Sometimes there is an extra step, or certain conditions that must be met, or known issues that have (or don't) a fix. If you are truly stumped, go back to the mod's website and check their FAQ. As well, often times there is a way to contact the author of the mod. Remember, be polite to whoever you talk to. These are gamers, like yourself, who are donating time and efforts into making WoW a better place to be!
Good luck, and I hope this helps!

I have tried doing this and still cannot get it to work. I unzipped the folder into the specified folder (C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\Titan\Titan files and subfolders) and got nowhere; I even tried putting it into another interface folder called Interface.20060912-163152, whatever that is =| Please help me before I mess up my WoW lol Thanks for your time :)
UPDATE:
LoL I feel stupid, but I hope this helps the next person to come along with this issue. The Add-Ons button to ACTIVATE the thing is at the character selection screen in the bottom left corner. You have to make sure it's active. Now if only I could figure out what that "Out of date" means next to the Titan Stance one... and how to get everything to work on it. I have the bar at the top with all the basic options, but all the spiffs of Titan are just not there (ie, in all of the categories that you can hover over when right clicking the top bar, there is nothing to higlight and activate). Erf! =| LoL still stuck.

OK i have been trying to install many different mods onto my WOW game. I can not figure out how to do it. I am on a macantosh and macantosh instuctions would help me a lot. If someone could please show me how to do this simple task i would be very pleased. I am trying to install metamap onto my game on a macantosh.

With the Mac AddOn installation is the same as PCs. Just goto your World of Warcraft folder (in your Applications folder), then follow the same instructions as the PC as the folder stucture is the same. You will need StuffIt Expander (or other Zip programs) to open .zip files and a Rar utility like UnRarX for .rar files. Note files packed as .exe files are not Mac friendly.

So I'm corn-fused! I downloaded GEM addon (Guild Event Manager) I fully unzipped it into Program Files>World of Warcraft>Interface>Addons>GEM2.14 (and inside it are the 40 various files as well as the fonts folder.
Then I go into WoW....launch...enter my account and password.... goes to Character selection/creation... I see my main in the center with a button below that says enter world....I see a list of characters on the right with three buttons below that say [Create character], and below that [delete character] and [back].
From this forum and what I could see on the WoW official site...there should be a box that says [ ] Addons? No box like that on my screen.
Just in case I missed something, I also looked closely on the login screen (there is a box for [ ] remember account name, along with various other buttons) but no box for addons?
What am I missing here?

Figured it out and to the next person that comes along and is feeling slow.
Inside the GEM folder that I had unzipped two things had to be done.
There was a subdirectory (which I had removed before I posted my first post) which some people might not realize has to be removed.
ex) I had GEM2.14 and inside that was <Gem2> and inside that were the various files.
The second part is that the .toc file (which I'm guessing is the equivilant of the exe) has to have the exact same name as the Folder it's in. So since my file name was GEM2.14 and the .toc file was gem2 it wouldn't 'see' it. As soon as I changed the file and .toc file to gem2 the "addon" button appeared in the character selection screen.
Hurumph :) :)

This is your problem -->Program Files>World of Warcraft>Interface>Addons>GEM2.14<-- (the problem is highlighted with bold type). The folder's name should be GuildEventManager2 not GEM2.14. WoW AddOn folders almost NEVER use the version number in the folder name.

I'm very confused, I just decided to use mods to make things a little easier and I did everything it said to do on the first page. Ex. Extract all from FactionGrinder and save it to C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons and its saved as FactionGrinder (the regular file name didnt work either so I renamed it) but I still don't get the Activate Mod button on the character selection screen. Please help me someone.
PLEASE HELP!!! I have followed all the directions for the auctioneer mod on the mod's website and this site, but I don't have the "addons" button on my character selection screen after I log in. Please tell me if you know something that I don't!!!

I have tried 4 different huds, and on all of them I get the same message. Some thing about it trying to do some thing that is reserved for blizzard. All of the four say that they are TBC compatable and none of them are working. These are the only add-ons that i am having trouble with. All the others work fine. I know I'm extracting them correctly. I was wondering if all huds are busted or if there is something else that I need to do. The four huds that I have tried are: arcHud, MetaHud, Ron Soft Hud, and Simple hud... Help PLZ!!:undecided:

Hi Folks,
I figured it out.
1. Unzip the files
2. THere should be a folder. If you click on the folder, you will see other folders.
3. ITs these subfolders that you copy to the C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns directory.
The button on the left bottom corner will then appear once u log on into your account.
Hope this helps.

I've been trying to install addons using the instuctions listed in here and still get no "addon" button on the Character Creation screen. I extracted MetaMap to "C:\Your World of Warcraft Directory\Interface\Addons\MetaMap" and still no dice. Do I have to download the installer from Blizzard first? I keep getting an error message when I try to open it refering to a "MPQ". What simple thing am I missing? It's driving me crazy as all I want is map coordinates to locate quests easier
Tunga
08-01-2007, 11:05 PM
What files are inside that MetaMap folder? It should be some LUA and XML files as well as a MetaMap.toc file.
Do I have to download the installer from Blizzard first? I keep getting an error message when I try to open it refering to a "MPQ".Error when you open what, the Blizzard installer? No idea what that is but you don't need anything from Blizzard to run UI mods.

There are 4 file folders in the MetaMap folder and several .XML and .LUA files as well. Nothing has worked so I clicked on the Properties for the .TOC file and it gives the correct location but also has a field that says "Opens with"... and it listed "Installer" from Blizzard. I'm about to give up, lot of work for a map.

I guarantee you're doing something fundamental but simple wrong because they do work :) .
I extracted MetaMap to "C:\Your World of Warcraft Directory\Interface\Addons\MetaMap"Something I just noticed, MetaMap comes with about ten folders. These should be placed directly into the Addons folder and not inside one big MetaMap folder. Can you confirm that you have, for example:
...\Interface\Addons\MetaMap\Icons\Color0.tga
...\Interface\Addons\MetaMapQST\background.tga
I picked the above files at random just to illustrate the point.
Basically if you have ...\Addons\MetaMap\MetaMap\ then that's not right.

Thanx for the reply. I still don't know what I was doing wrong, but I got it fixed in an oblique way so that it now works. I downloaded an auto-installer that bypasses the human error. Now all I have to do is download an addon and drag the zipped file into "WoW AddOn Installer" on my desktop and it automatically takes care of everything. Thanx for the help.

Alright. I have had WoW a little over 7 months now, and I've NEVER been able to get mods working. I've litteraly tried everything I've looked at other peoples problems and everything with my mods are set up correctly from what they say. I download it and extract it to the correct file and everything. But the damn AddOn button at the bottom left of my character screen never shows up. (Yes I'm exited out of wow and yes they're all updated/new mods.) WoW never picks them up and I never see the AddOn button and I never have. Anything you can say to my problem will be GREATLY appreciated. Because not having mods is a very big disadvantage.
Tunga
14-01-2007, 02:57 PM
Could be a few things, checking the path to the mods would be the first step. Where exactly are you putting them? Find a TOC file for one of your mods and post the path to it (you can leave out anything before your main World of Warcraft folder if you don't want to give out the install location).
AmarotheRogue
14-01-2007, 09:15 PM
Erm I dont exactly know what you mean, do I take one of the TOC. files and hit properties and take a SS?
EDIT: Did you mean the C:/World of warcraft/interface/addOns/... etc. Thing? If thats the case here is a screeny(s) of my interface... Imageshack is down for some reason... But my TOC is in the mods folder outside the subfolders if thats what you're asking
Tunga
15-01-2007, 01:55 AM
Well "addOns" could be your problem, though I don't know if you just typed it like that in the post. Make sure it's capitalised "Addons". My mod called BagsOpen's TOC file has a path like this:
D:\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\BagsOpen\BagsOpen.TOC
It should be easy to tell where they go because there are some Blizzard_NameHere folders in the Addons folder which are part of the client by default. Can you confirm that yours is the same as the above (ignoring the drive letter :) )?

Titan has lots of folders with it, these should be in the Addons folder and not in the Titan folder (well the Titan folder does have subfolders but there should be some outside of it too, one for each module).
If it's not that then can you define "didn't work" for us?

Sorry for this spam, normally I used cosmos, but my roommate told me titan worked better, and in fact he used both cosmos and titan at the same time, so I wanted to get titan.
So, I downloaded Titan v.3.0.5_20070110, and unzipped it.
Now, I know this makes me sound really stupid, and I probably am, but... I'm just wondering, what do I do now? I can't seem to get it to install or anything... am I missing something?

@ Icefalls confirm your unzipped files are in the correct location. Open WoW and at character login check your addons and see if it is listed, report back your findings.

Addons folder is in (if you used default install location) c:\program files\world of warcraft\interface\addons you should be able to cut and paste that into start -> run then click ok.
That screen shot is of the start menu shortcuts, not the actual program location.

Please keep in mind myAddons is itself an addon, you'll want to install your addons one folder level above that.

I've found a couple of notes database exports (MetaMapEXP.lua) and have been trying to import them into my MetaMap installation. I put the file in ...\addons\MetaMapCVT and then go to my Modules Tab in the MetaMap config and do the User Import. No matter what file I put in that directory, I get the same result: "Importing 0 of 3 notes..." etc. I don't see any notes on the map for any of the areas, except those my POI has created itself. Am I getting something wrong? Do I not understand what this feature does?
Thanks,

I was also using CTMod2, with the MapMod installed. I turned it off, and suddenly my import starting recognizing the notes EXPorts. All good. Lesson learned: too many mods make muddle MMORPG.
But, regarding this forum, why can I edit this reply to my post, but I can't edit or delete the original post?

That's fine, if you have Warcraft installed direct to your C:\ location. If you selected the default location it's in C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\interface\addons please double check that location, also make sure you have the box in the addons screen at character login to allow out of date addons.

I guarantee you're doing something fundamental but simple wrong because they do work :) .
Quote:
I extracted MetaMap to "C:\Your World of Warcraft Directory\Interface\Addons\MetaMap"
Something I just noticed, MetaMap comes with about ten folders.

I did everything above to the "t" and my files look exactly like that but still no addons icon. I don't get it!
Ex:
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\MetaMapQST\background.tga
is exactly how mine looks

Some mods include those you that you can unzip it to the WoW folder directly but it does mean it can be confusing when starting out. You should have \World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\NameOfMod\ and directly in there should be some combination of .LUA and .XML files and a .TOC file.
How many MB can I fill my Add-on Folder with?Click on Addons on the character select screen and change the number of the box at the top. The default is 48Mb I think which would explain your problem. It's quite safe to change it to 96 or 128 or whatever you like really (but the computer scientist in me likes round binary numbers :D ). Oviously setting it very high will impact game performance as then the game will have less RAM to use for itself.

The Problem: I have a friend that had no addons and I brought him here. He installed your UI.exe which I use. He installed the auctioneer and dimapcoords. I was using a pack you dont list called CTMod. When he went to install CTmod he didn't have a /AddOns folder. I told him to add one but still couldn't get it to work. So my questions is; If there's no folder, exactly where did your program install Auct and dimap? Does your program block the use of Mods not supported by your website? How does he fix this?
Tunga
02-04-2007, 06:59 PM
Mods need to be in /Interface/Addons so make sure that's where you're putting them. UICentral puts them in the same place as if you just do it manually and won't block any mods (non WWN or otherwise) from working.

What mod's are you using?
Then how do you install them for Macs?
You install AddOns the same way you do for Windows. Same folder/file structure:
World of Warcraft
- Interface
-- AddOns
Download the AddOns to someplace you can remember (such as the Desktop), then unpack them using your favorite zip utility (Stuffit Expander is a popular choice for this job on the Mac). Now drop that unpacked file into your AddOns folder. The only issue with Macs is that auto updater such as ui.worldofwar.net's will not work on the Mac.
A quick tip to save time going to your AddOns folder in the future: drop a shortcut to the AddOn folder into your Dock. This tip also works for Windows users using Dock type launchers such as ObjectDock or RKLauncher

change a few folder names to account, toon, and server name like the it said toI don't understand this, what did you rename?
Ah I think I understand what scottisthere asking asking. He has downloaded a AddOn pack that includes the settings needed to set up the UI's layout.
scott here is what you to set up most UI compilations. In the .zip/.rar file you download there will likely be two folders: Interface and WTF. If so follow these steps to set up that UI:
1) Open your World of Warcraft folder (C:\\Program Files\World of Warcraft)
2) Now locate the folders named "Interface" and "WTF"
3) Drag those two folders to another location such your Desktop, My Documents or a different hard drive. This completely removes your old UI and saves it just in case you decide to revert.
4) Unpack the UI compilation you just downloaded to your Desktop. Open it up and select the Interface; WTF; and if included, Fonts folders and copy them (Ctrl C)
5) Paste those folders into your World of Warcraft folder. The file tree will be similar to the following example
World of Warcraft
- game folder
- game folder
- wow.exe
- Interface
- WTF
-- Account
--- Your Account name
----- Your Realm name
------ Your Charater name
6) Open the new WTF folder then find a folder usually named "Your Account" or something like that. You will rename that folder to your WoW account name (your login name) EXAMPLE: If you login with the name "Fred" this what you change this folder's name to.
7) Now in the "Your Account" folder locate a folder labeld "Your Server" or something similar. Change the folder name to your Realm (server) name. EXAMPLE: If you play on the Bronzebeard realm then this what you name that folder. If you play on several Realms then copy this folder and rename each new copy that Realm's name
8) In the Realm folder find the yet another folder labeled "Your Character" or something similar. As in the previous step you rename this folder this time using your Character's name. Again, if you have mutliple characters then copy this folder.
9) If for some reason you do not like your new UI then you simple trash the Interface and WTF folders and replace them with your olds ones that you archived in step 3
Once you are done login, look for the AddOns button in your Character Selection screen, enable any out of date AddOns. Then load up your character and tweak to test. Once you get your UI set up to where you want, I would suggest backing it up so you in case something bad happens you can recover without too many issues.
Hope this helps

Personally, I feel it is a very bad idea for people that know nothing about addons, not even the basics of installing them, to be trying to install Mod packs (compilations).
Download one mod from the site, get it working and understand what it is that you did, where your savedvariable files are at, all that good jazz.
Then move on from there.

Fusionfox
06-05-2007, 01:37 AM
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns is the addon folder and wow.exe is in C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft
Tunga
06-05-2007, 10:52 AM
Okay that's correct. Inside that you should have a folder for each Addon. For example, if you installed a mod called SuperMod then there would be a folder at:
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\SuperMod\
Inside that would be the mod files.
Make sure you didn't end up with something like:
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\Addons\SuperMod\
Some downloads contain the Interface and/or Addon folders as part of the file paths and so when you unzip them to your Addons folder you end up messing up the path.

Go into your WTF folder (in WoW root), then (and I may have the exact structure wrong but you should be able to work it out) there are folders for each account, then for each server, then for each character. Copy the files from one character's folder into the other one and that should get you most of the settings copied over.

The instructions below actually did appear in a different post. However, I'm highly unsophisticated when it comes to computers and at times, their logic eludes me. Since the instructions in the previous post weren't completely specific, it took about 30 minutes for them to settle in my creative brain. I think this may help others who think like I do ....
Let's assume we all know that once you have your mods unzipped, you have to copy them to your <Addons> folder. There is a very simple trick to this that I spent about 1 hour trying to unravel :-) :
Instead of copying the unzipped file, what you need to do is open the unzipped file, and copy each folder in the very next step of the path to your <Addons> folder.
Example: I installed Auctioneer. The name of the unzipped file is:
<Auctioneerpac-4.00>
At first, I copied <Auctioneerpac-4.00> to my <Addons> folder. Nothing happened, I received no "Add Ons" button on the bottom left of my screen.
What needs to be done is:
Open the <Auctioneerpac-4.00> folder. In the Auctioneer mod, there are 8 subfolders that will display once you do this. These are the folders you need to copy to your <Addons> file. Select them all, THEN copy and paste them into your <Addons> folder. That should do it....hope it helps

Rannin
15-05-2007, 02:28 PM
I have Auctioneer which runs bean counter - you may have to add that mod to get Bean Counter
As far as your other problem -
I'm not very sophisticated about computers but here are some possibilites that I've seen talked about:
1. Make sure the .toc files in the subfolders match EXACTLY with the folder names of each subfolder.
2. You may be using the wrong <Interface> folder to access the <Addons> folder. My WoW file has 3 <Interface> folders - one of them is is just called Interface and the other two have a series of numbers after the name. Make sure you are using the one without numbers following the name of the folder.
Hope it helps...

You'll want to use something like WinZip or WinRar to extract your files so that you can preserve file pathing and folder names, I recommend trying to get a hold of winzip 9.0.
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons is the correct folder to place them in. So lets say you're using the Prat addon you'd have a C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\Prat folder, created on demand by the decompression program (winzip or winrar).
this is my first time trying a mod, i DO NOT have the expansion if that matters and i cant get any mods to work. i know where to put the file but i dont no how to use it ingame. i have win zip and extracted the files. can any one please tell me what im doing wrong or how to get the mod to activate.

I have my mods installed in my AddOns folder from my interface folder, and I have no idea how to unzip them.
Telic
17-06-2007, 09:42 PM
Sorry to be picky, but just to be crystal clear - if you haven't un-zipped them, then they are NOT installed in your AddOns folder :(
It sounds like you just have some Zip files in your AddOns folder which won't do anything.
e.g. \Interface\AddOns\NewAddOn.zip
The link below has a posting by Telic that shows how to install AddOns with a couple of examples, and a section called "Common Mistakes of the Beginner" that you might want to take a look at.
http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/forums/details/22258/1/
Windows can show the contents of Zip files in 'Windows Explorer' so you probably shouldn't need any other software - this ability leads some people to think that the Zip file is just like any other folder and the AddOn is installed if it is inside the \AddOns folder, but this is not the case. The contents of the zip file need to be un-packed.
So open your \AddOns folder in Explorer, Double Click on the AddOn's Zip file, which should open another Window; Then Copy and Paste the AddOn Folder from the new window back in to the \AddOns folder in the first Explorer Window.
So you should end up with a new folder :
\Interface\AddOns\NewAddOn\
& the original zip file
\Interface\AddOns\NewAddOn.zip
There is no need to store the zip file in the \AddOns folder so you could delete it, or move it somewhere else, or still leave it where it is if you like - it won't do any harm.
If you don't have Windows, then I'm not sure about the abilities of Mac/Linux to open Zip files themselves - you should Google 7-Zip, and download it. Then you should open up the Zip file and click on the "Extract" function and unpack to the \AddOns folder. Make sure you "Use folder names" or "Retain folder structure".
For more details and examples go to the link mentioned above.

Really easy question to answer probably, I left the game for about 2 months uninstalled it and everything and then I did the 10-day free trial thing to see if I wanted to come back, I just bought the actual copy of the game last night and all I had left to download was the bc stuff. Anyway, I don't have a World of Warcraft folder in my c drive where I did before so I don't know where to put all my mods at, I did a search for it and I really couldn't find where the WoW folder was at on my computer, so do I need to redownload the whole thing so it's in my c drive or can I just put my mods in the other folder whereever that is? From reading on here it looks like it has to be in the c drive so I'm thinking I might just have to uninstall and reinstall with the CD's to be able to use mods. Anywho, any help is appreciated, thanks.

You need to find where you've installed it. One easy way to do this is to right click on the shortcut, select Properties, and then Find Target. This should open an Explorer window with your install folder in it. Alternatively, do a search for wow.exe in Windows and you should find it then too.
You can run mods from any install location, so long as you ge them in the right folder relative to it (<WoW>\Interface\Addons\). I have installed in D:\World of Warcraft\ for example.

Hi, here is my problem.
I see my location in WoW, my trouble is when I am installing coords mods. I got the wrong file when I try to import mapmod.
Instead of ''Current import file contains data for : Mapmod''
it's ''Current import file contains data for : Metamap notes''
I try to import that and it gives me this ''imported 0 notes from metanotes from a total of 1632 with 1632 duplicated not imported.''
I have put MetaMapEXP.lua file in the right folder and I don't know what I do wrong.
If someone know how to take screenshots in window I'll show you exacly what I see.
Please help me :(
If it can help, I can send you the map mod installing pdf file. I'll soon post screenshots in WoW to show you the ''Current import file contains data for : Metamap notes'' and 'imported 0 notes from metanotes from a total of 1632 with 1632 duplicated not imported.''
Thanks

It should be just like this:
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\Stunwatch\
And then the mod files (e.g. Stuntwatch.TOC) directly inside there.

Hi this is my first post.
I started playing in the end in last november, but had to stop after only a month. On my old computer i had an add on folder in my interface. I have a new computer that im using now that runs on vista, if that has anything to do with it, and i went to add a mod, only to find I do not have an Add On folder. Should i just make one??? Ive been trying to use the UI, but it whenever i install a mod, like Shaman Friend and Totem Timers, it reinstalls the UI program, installs the Mod and then says i have no mods installed???? What should I do?

Most addons will be in a zip (or other compressed format), and when you open the zip file, you will find a folder that has the same name of the addon. BankItems, for example, has a folder inside the zip file called "BankItems"
To install an addon:
1) Make sure WOW is closed
2) Open the zip file (double-click it, usually)
3) Drag the folder that is inside the new window onto your desktop. (In this example, the folder is called "BankItems")
4) Go to your World of Warcraft folder (Start menu > My Computer > C: Drive > Program Files > World of Warcraft)
5) Once there, navigate to the Addons folder (Click on the "Interface" folder, and then the "Addons" folder). This folder should have a few addons (if you already installed some in the past) as well as the standard Blizzard addons, such as Blizzard_AuctionUI, Blizzard_CombatText, etc).
6) Drag the "BankItems" folder that is on your desktop into the Addons folder. When you do this, DON'T release your mouse when it is hovering over a "highlighted" folder, since this will drop the folder into the highlighted folder. Just drop it in the white space on the window (making sure that no folder is highlighted).
6.1) If your addon was already in the list (because you are updating it to a new version), make sure you DELETE the old folder first and then drop the new one in. While you could overwrite the folder with the new folder, this sometimes has bad results within Windows and could result in some files not being copied properly. Rare, but happens...
7) Your new addon folder should now be there. If your file viewing window is set to auto-sort your folders by name, it should be in alphabetical order and you should find your new addon, "BankItems" near the top. If it does not sort things, it will probably appear at the very bottom of the list.
8) Start WOW (you must do this because WOW only knows about files and folders in its addons folder upon loading. It makes a list of everything. So if you add folders while WOW is already running, WOW will not see them since it is not on the original list. Hence, the reason why we start WOW now)
9) Your character select screen with have the "Addons" button on the bottom left. Click it to open up the addons screen
10) Make sure you find your new addon and make sure it's turned on. Some addons are outdated and will need to be manually turned on and the "Enable out of date addons" option will need to be turned on as well.
Hope that helps.

UICentral has been removed due to some coding issues. The new version of UICentral will be available sometime in the near future. Since the program is down and out, the "Install Mod" feature won't do much, so you need to manually install your addons. I know it's a hastle to download a zip file and drop the contents into the addons folder of WOW, especially if you have to do it for 10-20 addons, but thankfully most of the addons can be installed once and if a new version of WOW pops out with a new version number (such as 2.4.2), you just need to make sure the "Enable out-of-date addons" checkbox is checked in the addon screen and most of your addons will still function. Any that don't, you'll need to manually update it at this time.
Obviously, you want the most up-to-date version of your addons, and that is what UICentral is good for and it is hastle-free. But until the program is back up and running, having your addons be a little out-dated and still work without bugs is a good tradeoff until that time.
I am not on the inside, so I don't know how long it will be until the new and fixed version of UICentral is available. All you can do is wait. :( The person probably sent you the email to let you know how to install the addon manually, since you aren't able to do it with UICentral at the moment. My post that is 2 posts above this one has a detailed list of steps to install an addon manually, if you're interested.

I have read all 16 pages of this forum, I read the very beginning on how to install the mod, which is how I learned of putting it directly into the Addons folder myself after unzipping. I have current downloaded mods active from curse.com using the curse client installer, they work fine. This one however, Critology, i downloaded form this site, is not showing up under the Addons tab in the character select screen, nor does it show up in the Addons tab of the in-game interface options once WoW is loaded and playing. I have gone step-by-step from the 1st page of this forum on how to install it manually, I still get nothing, I even tried cutting and pasting all files and folders of the unzipped folder directly into the Addons folder of WoW, still, nothing. At first I tried it as a zip folder, nothing, then I tried the extract folder, nothing, and as I said, cutting and pasting, still, nothing.
Why does this not work, yet the curse.com mods work fine, no problems at all, except for a new bug, that I haven't sent to them, so I'll post here anyway, that bug is, Interface\AddOns\CurseProfiler\CurseProfile r.lua: 139: attempt to index local 'timestamp' (a nil value).
I assume that's from Group Calender, even though that is active, and works properly since i can view the calender, the clock onthe minimap, and all options for that mod. I assume it is Calender because of the "'timestamp'" thing.
What I would like to know, hypothetically speaking, without that interface bug from curse profile, is why if I go step-by-step from this forum, I get nothing out of my downloaded mod from this site? How do I fix it, a list of options, and not single sentence answers would be nice. Thanks :D

What is the exact file path to NameOfMod.lua (presumably Critology.lua)?
99% of the time this is caused by people getting the location messed up during extraction and doubling a subfolder somewhere along the path.

I'm using a vista machine, and have 2 interface directories, and have tried to copy a mod pack into both without any success... Are there any mods which will work with vista? Or should I switch back to XP or get a mac?

After a lot of annoyance, faffing and searching through this site for some much-appreciated helpful posts, I finally got Auctioneer loaded up.
Why, oh why, did the writers not make it automatically go to the right folder?
Or, if they can't do that, why on earth don't they give instructions with the download? Are we supposed to be psychic and somehow guess how to install?
I did feel guilty for not paying for the download - after the hassle I've had trying to get it to work I'm glad I didn't pay them.
