View Full Version : Is it considered rude to solo instances below your level?

Was thinking of trying to solo an instance a few levels below mine and was curious if that is considered a jackass move or ok. I'ts hard for me to group up most times but was basically thinking of taking a look into one of the razorfurn Instances (which is about 4 levels lower than I am).
I realize there are a limited number of players allowed in each instance and dont want to piss anyone off.
appreciate any feedback

I think you're confused... the limited number of players in an instance has to do with the number of party members you're allowed to bring in with you. The whole point of having instances vs. just having dungeons like in Star Wars Galaxies is so no one has to compete with other groups for kills and they can go on a run that is all their own any time they want.
People solo instances all the time. You will need to be more than a few levels above an instance to pull it off though.

Yeah... one of the way higher level enchanters make money is to solo SM and DE everything =]

Instance means it creates a specific "instance" (or copy) of the dungeon just for your party, whether that party contains just you or 2-39 of your friends. At any given time on any given server there are likely multiple groups in each instance, each having their own copy all to themselves.
Solo away big fella and have fun!

I may suggest not doing an instance a few levels below you....You wont make it to far in. Sure handling a single elite mob your level isnt too hard, but I dont know of a single instance that allows for a single pull for the entire instance. I solo WC at 33 as a rogue, taking out the bosses and a few groups, but that took my cooldowns and vanishs and sapping, so its hard, but doable.

As a side note, at what level could say a shadow priest solo any part of SM?
Spirit Tap would be a huge benefit here, as would + damage gear i'm thinking.
The + damage gear, coupled with Imp VE and Spirit tap would all be a big bonus, however without AoE would it be possible to solo the GY at level 52? or even the Library?

So are you saying that if I enter alone.....I will be the only player in there?

Yes.
DrOsmius' account is pretty much spot on.
However, like the others mentioned, you wont be able to 'solo' an entire instance with only a few levels difference between you and the mobs. Instance mobs are elites, and usually buffed higher than an elite you would find during non-instance play. Not to mention most of an instance is groups of 2-5 mobs, so you you much more to deal with on any given pull.
10-15 levels higher than the medium suggested level and I imagine its doable, though may still be difficult given the grou pulls. 20-30 higher I would consider 'farmable'.

That's exactly what he's saying.
and Rgirty... you might be able solo graveyard at lvl 52 (probably not library). It's not AOE that's the main consideration. Besides Mage is really the only viable AOE grinder because locks just don't have the tools to hold mobs in place, are not mana efficient when it comes to AOE and reign of fire can be interrupted. I couldn't even AOE grind in SFK with my lvl 60 lock because I kept being interrupted. The issue is just that you need to be able to survive the pounding of multiple mobs since most pulls are multiples and you would need a few more levels as a cloth wearer I think. With a Warlock at least you have high stamina and an offtank that has an aoe taunt and a lot of health. I don't think the boss fights themselves would be a problem and you could use MC to get through a lot of groups but on the pulls where you get 4 towards the end... I don't think you'd make it through...

I was thinking 4 mobs would be the problem 3 mobs you could handle, as you say you could MC one then just have 2 after the mc'd mob dies. 4 would be a problem especially since you cannot fear them away

One other thing that might confuse you. When you enter an instance (that is the part after the portal) you (and anyone partied with you) will be the only ones in that "copy" of the instance. However (and someone correct me here if I'm wrong ), I think that you will be in a shared /general chat channel with people who are in other "copies" of that same instance.
So even though you may be alone in your dungeon, you might still see general chat from others and think they are in there with you. This isn't much of a big deal as the general chats in dungeons are pretty quiet anyway.

Do the mobs re-spawn after you take them out?...........or are they dead for good once you kill them?

depends on the instance, however, almost all instances below end game raids, the monsters respawn in 45 mins to 1.5 hrs

Some mobs do respawn, but bosses do not.
Here is a rule of thumb that seems to apply in most cases.
If you have cleared most of the mobs to get to where you want to be (a boss or particular area of the dungeon) and you die just before completeing your objective (especially true if you killed the boss but died before looting).....when you get back to the instance portal and rez....any mobs that could possibly impede your hasty travel back to your objective....have respawned.
