Hey everyone,
I have heard a lot about how great this game is, and I can't wait to join the WoW craze. However, it seems like you have to pay a monthly fee to play. I know you have to pay for some aspects, but I was wondering if there was any way I could play by myself, maybe boost up my character, and then pay to play online with others. I don't really like my current perception of playing this game where I drop $40 on the game and then at least $10-15 a month just to play. Again, is there anything in the game I can do or play that doesn't require you paying a monthly fee? Please respond and let me know how this whole monthly payment thing works. Thanks

nope...Everything is online and $15 is a small price to pay for a great game that will make you it's love slave for a long time

The short answer to that question is indeed "no".
On an unrelated note, Bigairbrucey, I am pretty sure you have been warned for your use of language before. Please keep it a bit clean, the word filter (the automatic one or your very own "customized" one here) is hardly a valid excuse to swear.

Ok thanks for the info. My friend has the game and has a 2 month game card or w/e you want to call it. Is it possible that we could split the cost and use the same card, or does each account need a unique card or w/e?

A gamecard can only be applied to one single account. I'm sure Blizzard tried to avoid ways people could play the game for free...

I'm not sure you can split a game card and use one for 2 accounts. I use my credit card, and I can pay for two accounts with that, but I don't know how game cards work.
Answering your question: No.
Everything is online. I understand how you feel about dropping $40 on the game and then another $15 a month to play, but look at it from another perspective: how much money you will save by playing this game. Once you get into it, if you like it, you will play it a lot. Other things you did to fill your time will take a back seat. For instance, I no longer go out to eat just to have something to do. I don't go and spend 30 bucks at the movies unless it is a movie I REALLY want to see. I don't suddenly think "Oh crap, I need <insert some mundane object>" and then run out to the store to buy it.
In short, paying $15 a month to play WoW has actually saved me money over the long term.
On the flip side, try to make sure not to get too involved in the game. No matter how great it is (and it is GREAT), real life must always come before WoW. I think everyone can agree to that. And if you can't, I feel bad for you.
Have fun with the game!

very good perspective ... sitting in your undies, drinking beer and bashing hordies is lots of fun. You do need to keep your friends and family around tho...this game game can take over your life
