I wanted to post a mesage here and ask a question as well as present an idea that keeps coming to my mind.
Picture this: 5 days, one or three man teams, everyone meets in a hotel lobby or other large conference type area, everyone starts a new character on a new server, play till you want to cry, get some rest, play some more, at the end of the 5 days, highest level person/team wins the pot. That's the basics.
The pot being the entrance fee for every team to come and compete in a World of Warcraft competition. Sort of a marathon of gaming competiotion mixed in with team elements and the raw "new character" aspect of WOW. Answering questions like: Just how long does it take to get to 60? How far could a team really get in 5 days of constant playing? what's the best strategy for leveling, when no one is an ALT and no one has access to instant gold or guild help?
So I post this to ask the question, is this something worth organizing? Has anyone done it yet? Would you come if I (or someone) organized it? Let me know what you think.+

Not necesarily if you had 3 people in a team working together, you may end up with some other combinations.

WoW was one of several games recently used in a gaming competition that did what you mention above and much more.

Check the worldofwarcraft.com webpage for more info...im sure theres still something about it.

I think it would be fun to watch them play the game in FAST forward motion. See a player get to level 60 in 5 days straight would be entertaining. Would you allow the farmers to enter your tourney?

4084700 xp to get to 60 / (24hr/day * 5 days) = 34039 xp/hour ON AVERAGE, for all levels, from 1 to 60....

I would argue that getting to 60 in five calendar days is pretty much impossible.

I wouldnt there is a hunter guide that someone sells and you can level to 60 in 4.something days.

It can be done but I wouldnt like to do it.

I suppose if three people got this guide knew exactly where to go and took shifts, 1 person playing one person guiding them from the guide and one person sleeping they could definately get a 60 in under 5 days played.

However they would be able to stop while playing and everything would have to be done so fast.

<snip>

someone selling a guide isn't proof it can be done, any more than my conclusion is proof it can't be done...But, you saying it can be done isn't proof either...

You seriously think you can average over 30k xp/hr UNRESTED every level up to 60? (LOL!) That prolly means averaging 50kxp/hr at level 60, since 30k xp/hr isn't possible at most of the lower levels...

4 days /played is possible, but only with rest. Meaning, it would be a few weeks by the calendar.

The contest would have rules of play asscoiated with it that would help generate fair play, such as "on a three man team each player must be a different class" and of course each of you can think of other rules that could be included to add balance to those competing. The point was not to make an arguement for getting to level 60 in 5 days (I don't think it's possible) but to gather in one place and give prizes for playing a game we all like, not unlike other LAN parties you may have been to, or QuakeCon, etc. And really to see if there was any interest from WOW players (you reading this) to participate in such a contest. To me it sounds fun, take a week off, drive with some friends to a party, play WOW against other teams of players and win some cash, or just have fun doing it.
