View Full Version : 4 wasted hours in BRD...

This is just marvellous, I continue through BRD for at least 4 hours, changing group members, etc (PuG of course), and then:
[Server] Shutdown in 15:00
That's lovely, not only do I not get my Core Fragment, but I get to pay 2g 34s for wasting my time! So, how privelidged I feel to be a "valued" member of the WoW community...good game Blizzard. That's the way you treat me, like a piece of dirt on your shoe? Then here's some news for you all:
I've had it with your pathetic excuse for a server, crashing every 5 minutes and ruining my day. Now, you can hide behind your contract with all your ****ty clauses, but this is one person's tenner a month that you just lost. I've seen FREE, yes that's right FREE, game servers run better than this. I never put up with this **** with any other game, and I don't know why I lasted so long with this one.
Yes, I am whining.
Go on, say something against me, it doesn't make what I just said any less true!

Ah well, I'll take it as a sign...If I get a ban for what I said in /5 then I'll stop playing...
For those who are interested, it was:
"I am going to walk to Blizz HQ and personally castrate those w***ers"
and
"F**k you Blizzard!"
Wonder if I'll get a ban?

I agree. I'm questioning whether or not to continue on WoW because of their ridiculously bad server stability. Diablo II hasn't made them much cash in years and is free to play, and the server never crashed once in the year+ I played. Heck, after I was sick of vanilla D2 I played on a mod realm (this was before Blizzard cared) and it was *still* more stable than WoW.

So your blaming Blizzard because you had a crap pug, took ages in BRD, didnt finish what you wanted and planned to run it on a maintenance day?
Yeah, damn you blizzard...............

They just choose a bad time to do it, that sort of time is normal for bad pugs to finish at...why not maintain their ****ty realms at 7 AM when nobody gives a ****?

Because if they did it at 7am your time, then they'd have people in other parts of the world having the same issues as you currently do. No matter what time they do weekly maintenance, it's not gonna please everyone. That maintenance started at 8PM in my time zone, so I wasn't impressed but it happens. I just make an effort to not plan any instances on that night, I just grind rep or whatever.
I know the realms are ridiculously unstable and all that but this was just a case of bad timing on your behalf because it was the regular scheduled maintenance, albeit an hour or two early (but the times were mentioned when logging in).

I foolishly attempted a PUG Scholo run last night but a combination of lag and bad teamwork meant that we didn't get far and I had a 5g repair bill (on cloth!).
Now I can't complain that I didn't know it was maintenance night but I do have a question. Why do the realms go completely haywire hours before maintenance is even due to start. This happens every damn week and I just can't think of any excuse for it. Is there some technical reason for it or is it just that Blizz can't ba arsed to do anything when they know the server will be down in a few hours anyway?

Calm down and next time, take a deep breath and go outside for a while prior to posting.
I swear, the moment these forums are turning into the official ones, I am out of here before you can say "fanboi".

You need to learn to recognise the PuGs like that and Bail out early.
I guess the servers are rubbish on a tuesday since they've been running for 6 days and all the server memory's been stuffed full of rubbish that should have been cleared out.

If you're doing an attunement run don't do it with a PuG. Shouldn't take you that long to begin with. And really... so what you had a 2G repair bill you still should have made money on that run. You should have made way more than 2g after spending 4 hours in BRD.

Pretty normal behavior from bliz on monday. I respect the op in saying he's not giving them any more money. I would like to know the technical details of what the servers are that they actually run, and what kind of personnel their technical team is comprised of.

Sorry to all of you for having to read my inane crap last night, I just get like that when I'm tired, and it would take alot less than what actually did happen to really get to me.
But yes, the server was screwed, which did cause one of those extra hours (the guildie who was with us couldn't re-connect for ages).
I'm on EU-Bloodhoof realm, and we've been having random disconnects for the past month or two, and quite frequently. We are currently one of the worst servers for this, and I guess I saw last night as the final straw.
I made a good decision through all this though, no instances starting at 10-11 PM...ever. It will only end in tears!
Once again, a massive sorry to all of you, and I hope we can forget about this post.

That's a good idea because around that time people start getting punchy and don't pay attention... they start leaving in the middle of runs and whatnot. I was on one late night run (BRD coincidentally) to help someone out once and our tank fell asleep at his keyboard.
I wouldn't say even to not do late runs... but don't do late runs with a specific goal in mind (especially if that goal gets accomplished at the end of the instance). I'd do late night runs but just to make money or farm crap for AD turn-ins or something. Then you're usually just pleasently surprised... like the other day when I went on a spur of the moment scholo run figuring I could get some scourgestones, crypt fiend parts and skeleton bones. Then wouldn't you know it? In the Ras Frostwhisper fight Elanna's Embrace drops and I'm the only cloth wearer. So then even when we didn't finish the run I was pleased with everything because given the hour I didn't plan on it going all the way to Gandling. Although, it would have been pretty cool if we got there and Headmaster's Charge dropped too.

I normally run instances with a goal in mind, that's the thing. And if there is no goal, normally I'm thinking "Well, I'd like to clear to [Insert Boss Here]."

If I plan to run an instance for a real goal (quest or something) I start early. Late night runs mostly start out of the "Hmmm why not" mentality (on my part) and have no real goal, cause most of the time I won't reach the goal I set on late night runs :p

[Server] Shutdown in 15:00
Go ahead and whine.....that and a dollar will get you....whatever a dollar will get you.
You doing and instance right up to a scheduled shutdown is not blizz's fault...
On the other hand, if you suffered because of an unscheduled shutdown, I think you should show your dissatisfaction by quitting the game...Blizz will get the message....er...NOT.

You only proved my point that, in general, forums would be a much happier place if people would sometimes manage to sit back and wait a while before posting. Frustration in a case like this is definately understandable, but making angry posts here with a lot of asterisks isn't going to solve your troubles.

You're correct Snow, I'll make sure to get some distance between myself and my keyboard if it happens again.

BRD is one of the bloody largest instances in the darn game. I'veen in there like 5-6 times and still haven't made it past the bar.
In any case, if all you really want to do is attune, there is a faster way to do it... just requires some swimming in lava. I've never done it myself, but ppl tell me it's pretty easy to do. There's a wowwiki article on it... plus a couple of threads here on it.
I chickened out myself... I paid some money grubbing capitalistic scum of a warlock 10g to summon me to the core fragment.

With a decent group, the shortcut should take 30 - 45 minutes.

You know Snowieken, these forums really need not turn into the official ones. I mean. *points at Holster* You are carrying that wand of banning, afterall.
Yes, I know Duchel apologized and everything, but I'm talking in general. Folks really should be aware of the forum rules by now with regards to the circumventing the language filter, and how the unconstructive rant posts are not appreciated by the Mods either.
Temp bans to get folks to cool down might be in order at some point to maintain some relative stability on these boards, lest it go up in flames.
Might be something that you Mods and the Admins need to discuss, especially with the current heat waves going on across the globe. Tends to make fuses shorter, if you know what I mean. And then you would be looking at the official forums doing a visit here.

ROFLMAO listening to anyone use DII as a comparator with respect to server stability. Reading your post, I can't help but think back to the THOUSANDS of outraged, expletive filled posts that went up here about poor Battle.Net performance.
Cheers,
