What can I wear?

Another newbie question for everyone. Sorry, I'm an alliance, Nelf hunter. I seem to be able to put on leather armor just fine, but the chain it won't let me. I'm level 6 now, and I tried to put on Rugged chain mail (chest), and it wouldn't let me, and also Flimsy chain boots and it wouldn't let me. Is this character restricted to JUST leather, and that's it?

hunters can wear cloth and leather up until lvl 40. at lvl 40 they can pay the trainer some money to learn to wear mail as well. they never can learn plate though.

OK, thanks for the quick reply - so I'm just better off selling the chain stuff directly back to a merchant, or auctioning it off? It's just common stuff, so I wasn't sure if I'm wasting my time at the AH with it or not?

correct, though if it's nice stuff and you are getting close to lvl 40 maybe save it at that point in anticipation of you getting the ability to wear it

He's level 6 so it is probably grey vendor trash. If it's not at least green don't even try and auction it Hunter, just sell it back to the vendor.
