Hi guys

Just would like to know if anyone else has had it happen to them.
I just got back from being on holidays for a week to find 5 of my players deleted, I posted a ticket for a GM to be told that it looked like my account had been comprimised and that they would have to suspend it and investigate the issue. I then got sent an email asking for the cd key and a load other questionds which I have answered and sent back.

Im a bit pissed at blizzards response to me, when I asked the GM if he/she knew how long it would be that the account was suspended the response I got was simply "I have to log you out now, good bye"

I also have no idea how anyone could get my password, I have never gieven it out and I have never downloaded any dodgy software (that I know of)

Anyway if this sounds familiar could you let me know how long it took to get sorted and did Blizard fully restore your players with all their equipment. Cheers guys.

Sorry to hear that this has happened to you....

Was your passsord a simple one? (brithplace, some likeness to your account name etc.)

Have you let other people play on your account? a Big No No especially if you give a buddy you account info that is no playing while you are watching them in the same room... (Learned my lesson on EQ) ^_^ Took EQ 2 months to get all of my stuff back chars and equipment. but i was given a free month for my "Troubles"

Sorry I have no real adivce to give you... but best of luck to you....
Keep on those GM's hard be persistant (sp) and be patient at the same time.... Those GM's have thousands (I'd Imagine) of messages sent to them daily.

Anyways best of luck to you mate...

Thanks mate, the password I had was quite good, or so I thought. over 10 digits long with random numbers. Blizz have now told me it will be investigated and will take about 7 days, so heres hopeing. my only other concern was that people in my guild might think there "is no smoke with out fire" and think that maybe I have done something wrong. I am quite a paranoind person :embarassed:

To the OP: your guild should have some kind of forum surely? Post there and let them know what is happening..

Your password is not going to protect your account if your machine is open to invasion by trojans/worms that record such things when you pass them on.

Any computer on the internet today should...

- be kept upto date as far as Service Packs, hot fixes etc are concerned. Especially if you play on a Windows box
- have an active Firewall, pop-up blocker, antivirus software etc
- be attached to the internet via a dedicated Router with an active Hardware Firewall, software based Firewalls are not sufficient but help.

People who use them should never
- Open email and attachments from people you do not know or expect emails from
- open any file or execute any application you have obtained from dodgy sources, even images/videos and Power Point presentations can be infected with god knows what code.

Thanks powerleveling, but it was probally either your company or one like you that has got me into this mess already. And im not sure how your account with 19 posts is still active on these forums, but I guess it wont be for much longer.

He was being sarcastic. Powerlevelling companies and gold farmers are often two hands on the same belly. Stripping high level pc's of their goodies, mainly through DE or even vendoring and then transferring the gold to their own player characters is not exactly an unheard of occurence.

Blizzard handles hundreds (probably thousands) of cases every day where people's accounts are compromised in one way or another. I imagine that they have had to develop a more "cold" response to it in order to deal with the sheer volume... not that it makes it any better or excuses it.

Sorry that happened to you. I hope that it works out for you.

To answer your question - no, it has never happened to me. I utilize a difficult passoword and NO ONE even remotely is aware of what it could be. I also use a firewall and am tremendously careful about the things I download onto my computer so that I don't risk getting a trojan or virus. I'm not saying you did any of this, but since your account does appear to be compromised, it's likely one of those scenarios is right. Either that, or someone got really lucky and guessed it... though it's more likely that you got a password stealer, or someone knew your account info.
