I have been a total lazy bastard.
I need to update my mods for 1.12, but I always get frustrated that I have to set everyhting back up.
Is there a way that I can update my mods and still preserve the way it currently looks?
I'm on a mac too, so if there is an application that can do this, great, but the only ones I've heard of (and I dont know if they work the way I want them to) are on windows.
Any help would be immensely appreciated.

Put all your addons to favourites on the site they're being updated and check back once in a while.

That's not what he was asking about..
As far as updating mods, most should preserve their settings between updates. The settings are kept in a completely seperate directory.
Before you update your UI, back up your WTF and AddOns folders to a seperate location (either on your Desktop or in My Documents are good spots).
Once you have finished that, then nuke the orginal folders in your WoW directory. This is to help avoid strange problems later.
Create a new AddOns folder and install your new/updated AddOns. It is usually best to install AddOns fresh rather installing overtop the existing older AddOn
Once your AddOns are installed, restore the WTF folder.
Your AddOns should be in their proper places now.
Keep a back up of your WTF and AddOns folder somewhere like on an external drive or CD. This will make restoring your UI in the case of a Windows/MacOS or WoW reinstall much easier.

An updated addon isnt going to reset your settings ... when updating Blizzard removed(read: backed up) your WTF folder.
