View Full Version : Does raid leader determine the type of loot?
After raiding for more then a year in instances like MC, BWL and now Naxx/TAQ, I have somehow noticed that different raid leader will have some trend of loot drop. For example, player A as a raid leader might be dropping more warrior stuff, player B as raid leader might be dropping more mage stuff. Also, there are guilds that are turning in all the Thunderblade part/AL/epic hammer week in week out, while some guilds have not seen any for ages.
Could raid leader (which will determine the seed for that instance) really be a factor in getting drops of your desire?

I seem to recall that this theory was refuted by Blizzard, i.e. there is no correlation between whatever class is raid leader and the type/quality of loot that drops. It's all random, and streaks of luck (and lack thereof). How they get the seed for the random number generator, I really don't know - it could for all I know be some instrument somewhere measuring barometric pressure.. Seriously.

Most likely, you're thinking those leaders drop more of that classes gear, and so you notice it more.
And you are so anxious for the answer that you post the thread twice ?

Urban legend.
However, I was told that stuffing your lederhosen with a few cans of Cream Corn, wearing a tinfoil hat and reciting -Mary had a little lamb- backwards makes only Warlock loot drop.

Interesting?
Our Guild Leader is a warrior. Ony dropped 2, yes 2, DS helms in a row. Anymore questions? So in 1 week for 4 DS helms dropped.
Yes, I am a Hunter. :-) And no it was not my turn all 4 times. Our Guild Hunters use a wishlist that works GREAT. (I have GS helm and 4 other pieces of GS which I prefer)
Actually it is :)
You'll never see a earthfury drop with a paladin as raidleader.
or atleast not till the expansion :)

It is set by random number generator.
Now, the person that goes in first sets the instance (ie seeds the rand number generator). It is not beyond the realm of possibility that the blizz RNG is crappy and whenever a specific person sets the instance that the same types of items will drop.
For example, we rarely see might drops. But the last 2 instance resets of MC (due to our server doing down for upgrades just happened to be Monday and then Tues) the same person went in first both nights. Both nights every mob that could drop warrior gear did....which has never happened before.
If we let him seed it again after a few weeks, we will see if the warrior drops reappear or not.
