Hi I was just wondering exactly how an ignore works. Does it just not show comments made to you by the person you ignore. Or does it also prevent the person you ignore from being able to see that your online, and from being able to see what you've typed in channels such as LFG. In other words does the block work both ways?

If i ignore you...I wont see anything you type in game, but you will still see what i am typing. This includes raid/party/whisp and any LFG or other channel. I am not sure about the on/offline status though.

i think the ignored person can also no longer open a trade window or ask for a duel. Not sure about party invitations either. it ignores quite alot, but it s been a long while since i last had somebody on my ignore list :)

I think it doesn't ignore emotes, at least it used to let that slip by.

Ok, throwing another bone on the pile: when you ignore someone and he tries to /w you, does he get notified that his messages do not reach you, or is he gonna spend his day whispering at walls?
If not, does he get notified when he gets added to someone's ignore list?
Just haven't felt like trying this out myself :laugh:

You do not receive a notification when you're being added to someone's ignore list.
However, should you try to whisper to someone who is ignoring, you will receive a "XXX is ignoring you" message.

He gets the message, this player is ignoring you. When he whispers you that is.

he can't whisper you or send tells
he can't invite you to groups
he can see that you are online, you will know when he's online.
there are two nice addons called InfiniteIgnore and ImprovedIgnore that let you ignore more people (WoW has a 50 person limit, and it gets filled :) ) and also lets you even customize the message it sends them.
