Hi,
I would like to post on a website my character's latest profile (such as health, mana, inventory, etc.), as well as possibly some real-time world information (such as which guild members are online, etc.) I am trying to find out if the WoW API can be called without running the game, so that such information can be extracted.
Is this possible, and if so, can someone please point me in the right direction as to how I can go about doing it?
Thanks in advance.

I could be wrong about this, but I don't think that's possible without running the game. And to be frank, it sounds scary if it would be.

I would seriously doubt that. At least without doing anything seriously violating the ToS and EULA and most likely some laws here and there.

Indeed, you cannot call the WoW API from outside the game.
BUT
You can write an addon (or use an existing one) that stores your latest char-info in savedvariables.
For example:
- You install the addon CharactersViewer
- You log on once with all your toons
- You log out
- In <Yourwowfolder>\WTF\<Youraccount>\SavedVariables\Charactersviewer.lua you can extract all the info you need.
And since your characters don't change if you're not logged in, that info will always be up to date! (unless you're like me and often play on different pcs)

Yes, but you still can't tell who is online, outside of the game...so far as I know.

I think that is a great idea, WOW should give us a way to log in via the website to re-list items on AH, buy from AH, chat with guildys, friends... etc
it would be great if I can use my PocketPc Phone to log to my account to do all of the above.
