View Full Version : Comparison of who should get priority on a few BWL items (Rogues vs Hunters)

I know this is an age old debate, but our guild is considering making some changes to our looting system. Right now we are using the Kaliban list for what class should get priority to roll on certain items.
What I am wanting to find out is if anyone can give me some reasoning (hopefully statistically or mathematically) why the Kaliban list ranks these items as it does.
Item one, Dragonfang Blade Kaliban says: rogues - 5 hunters - 3 warrior/druid - 4
Item two, Drake fang talisman Kaliban says: rogues - 5 hunters - 3 warrior/druid - 5
Item three, Circlet of Applied Force Kaliban says: rogues - 5 hunters - 4 warriors - 4 druids - 5
It may be a matter of other items being available to hunters which are better for them as opposed to what is available to rogues, but I was hoping someone could assist me who is much more knowledgeable in the formula aspect of the game.
Thanks

Ok, well I'm no expert, but here goes:
Item One: [All classes get 130hp and unless I'm mistaken all get the same dodge and armor bonus]
Rogues: 0.6 crit, 16 meelee AP.
Hunters: 0.3 crit, 32 ranged AP. (without lighting reflexes)
Warriors: 0.8 crit
Druids: 0.8 crit, 16 meelee AP (in cat form- these are without any feral talent bonuses)
So stats wise it'd go to a hunter or druid, however, the item is obvious a dagger, and a great one at that, so anyone with half a brain would give this to rogues who want it first and foremost. Also, the weapon's dps doesn't count for anything when the druid is in cat (correct me if I'm wrong again) so really, the warrior is better off (IMO).
Item two: [Just gives exactly what it says it gives to each class, but I believe druids have some sort of AP bonus in the feral tree]
Because of that bonus (if they have it) I'd send it the druid's way, it is however awesome for all 4 classes.
Item three: [Gives 90 hp to all classes]
Rogue: 0.8 crit, 34 meelee AP
Hunter: 0.4 crit, 44 ranged AP
Druid: 1.1 crit, 34 meelee AP
Warrior: 1.1 crit, 44 meelee AP
So this is a tough one, I'm gonna say rogue and warrior here, but once again, I'm no expert, and these formula don't include any talents or otherwise, this is just a sort of general guideline from the limited knowledge I have.
Hope it helps!

If you want to melee, don't be a hunter? someone should introduce handguns to Blizzard.
I do find many of the loot decisions hilarious. I don't play hunters very often, but one thing is obvious. If I am in melee with a hunter ( can not shoot guns/bows/etc within 8 yards ), I want to do as much damage as possible.
I wonder why Blizzard wasted all of that time with the various talent trees when only the most optimal spec/play style is acceptable?

Hunters are primarily a ranged class. Just like warriors are a meelee class. By your logic shouldn't warriors be angry that they can't charge from the same distance a hunter can shoot? Or rogues be angry that they can't dish out as much ranged DPS as the hunter?
If the hunter was to able to go toe to toe with a meelee class (feral druid, warrior, rogue, heck even shaman and pally) then soon casters would start whining about not being able to do the same thing. Our meelee abilites focus on keeping the enemy away from us, not so much on dealing damage, and therefore weapon slots are little more than extra stat slots for us.

Kaliban's loot lists assume that you are in a guild with a long term association. So the underlying premise is that all the items in the loot table will drop over time, and the question is how to distribute them wisely among classes to maximize overall guild strength. If an item is good for a number of classes, the question is whether there is a better item for one class that they should wait for while giving this item to another class that has nothing better to hope for. It's a big-picture analysis.
On the other hand, if you never plan to see your raid members again, then roll need on anything you want. Just because it is the best rogue weapon in the game doesn't mean that your warlock shouldn't have it if it is better than what you've got. Just don't expect to get anything in the future when no one will let you into a raid party...
