Just some questions about getting through the encounter.

We gave him two tries last night...first one we only got him down to 98% b/c we weren't handling the healing wards properly.

Second try we got him to 23%. Really the only problem seemed to be healing. As our healers went OOM, the DPS started to die off.

Also:

-Do DoTs still tick on the shades after you can't see them?

-Anyone know if you get a shard back from killing a totem w/ shadowburn? If so we can put warlocks on totem duty and pretty much insta-kill them every time.

-Concentration aura for all groups?

-Do you suggest an extra healer for this fight?

-Any other general tips?

Healing isn't usually that bad on Jin'do, at least if everything is done properly. The MAIN thing in this fight is killing the shades as soon as you get cursed, everyone needs to do that, healers/dps everything but the tank anyway, because as soon as the shades get out of control everyone WILL die :( Can't heal the damage that 20 odd shades are doing to your raid... Alas I have no idea if DoTs keep ticking on the shades once your curse wears off, but I imagine that they would.

We use melee for the totems, so basically you have all ranged/healers standing together in one group, and all melee dps (inc shamans, well if your horde anyway, we have shamans as part of the melee group in this) in another group. Then basically the melee switch target from jindo to the totem, immediatly as the totem pops up, they should go down blindly fast then, if your dps is quick enough.

Hope that helps some!

-Do DoTs still tick on the shades after you can't see them?

Yes. Warlocks are especially handy for killing shades as they can dot multiple when cursed.

-Anyone know if you get a shard back from killing a totem w/ shadowburn? If so we can put warlocks on totem duty and pretty much insta-kill them every time.

No shard. Use melee on the totems mostly, you can toss out a Searing Pain if needed.

-Concentration aura for all groups?

Don't play Alliance, but I guess that can't hurt.

As for the fight itself, it has a distinct order.
Anyone who is cursed must stop everything and kill as many as possible (NEVER dispel the curse). Healers will have a hard time killing, so we tend to split the raid into a healing and a dps camp, and make sure the dps focus on shades that are attacking healers first.
After that, Totems need to go down fast. Healing Ward goes down pretty fast, but the MC totem is risky when it grabs dps. The MC totem seems to only pick targets that are close to it. Use at least 2 tanks to make sure he doesn't kill cloth when the MT is mced.
Put one Mage at the skeleton pit, with one healer paying attention to him/her.
Give people the Shadow buff, the shade damage is shadow based. If you really need to, you could bring Shadow Protection potions.

So in short : Shades > Totems > Jin'do. If you keep the shades and totems under control, the spare dps you manage to do on Jin'do will eventually kill him. It's all about control.
Don't get discouraged, he's debatably the hardest boss in the instance.

-Do DoTs still tick on the shades after you can't see them?

Yes. This makes locks excellent shade killers. Corruption + curse of agony = dead shade.

-Anyone know if you get a shard back from killing a totem w/ shadowburn? If so we can put warlocks on totem duty and pretty much insta-kill them every time.

Never tried that as we use melee taking them down. Totems are put up close to Jin'do so rogues should have them instantly on their range.

-Concentration aura for all groups?

If the shades are dealt properly this shouldn't be needed but it won't hurt either.

-Do you suggest an extra healer for this fight?

If healing is your problem then maybe. I see it more as dps fight though. Rogues are excellent here as they can take totems down very fast and immediately continue with Jin'do.

-Any other general tips?

Concentrate on shade killing. Anyone getting cursed should kill them. Next in priority are totems, healing totem first. Jin'do himself is the least of your worries, he goes steadily down if you can handle the other stuff. Druid makes excellent tank here as bear cannot be polymorphed.

Yep, just to emphasize what everybody has been saying: this fight is ALL ABOUT THE SHADES. Jin'do is just a regular boss if you take away the shades, so all you need to worry about is people paying attention. When they're cursed--and make sure nobody Decurses them--they need to stop what they're doing IMMEDIATELY and get on those shades. As a priest, I can usually hit them with a Mind Blast and SW:P, which will kill them over time, although occasionally I have to wand them once or twice or throw a Smite at them.

Just be smart about it. Healers especially tend not to stop what they're doing when they're cursed, and if everybody kills 2-3 shades, you'll be fine. Also, make suuuure that you destroy the totems immediately! I believe the order is Healing first, Mind Control second, and so on. If you have everybody in the raid who see's the Totem turn on it, healing won't be a problem. But if you have people delaying, or simply not switching targets, you'll need to talk to them.

tbh its a race fight, a race to dps him down and kill totems healing him, and a race to do it before your overwhelmed by shades and or your casters oom.

some key points we learned.

Have a druid tank. It is easier to have a sub-geared and sub-specced druid in bear tank than have two warriors tank.

Priests, locks, hunters: dot as many shades as possible when cursed, the dots carry on after curse wears out.

Put pets (hunter and lock) on as many shades as possible: The pets attack the shades even after the curse wears off, but only if they have previously been attacking them.

All mellee on totems.

Keep plenty of dots on jin'do since everyone will be switching targets so much.

Mages are pretty week in this fight. use them for killing the skellies with a paladin (shaman i guess) for healing.

priority: Shades > Healing totem > Brainwashing totem > jin'do

If you control the shades you will win the fight.

hope this helps,

[Put one Mage at the skeleton pit, with one healer paying attention to him/her.

there is another tactic out there that allowes that mage to stay with the raid and kill shades/totems and bossy you know. if you are alliance atleast..

Have a pally with good healing gear go in and do that flame aoe thingy they do, but dont kill them. He then continiues to heal himself for the duration of the encounter(wich means 19ppl instead of 18 on Jin`do ;) ). the skeletons will not go for the raid unless your pally dies. the aggro gained from chainhealing himself means that the rest of the raid can do preatty much whatever they feel like without worrying about the skellies atleast.

once the pally has engaged the skellies and has a heal in on himself(kinda like a sunder...only not :s )the raid gets on killing Jin`do. Preatty preatty ligths and a few minutes later you are a dead boss richer :)

Have fun and enjoy :D

Ooooor you can have a mage just run in and AoE them once or twice. Its much faster and easier--plus, you don't have to worry about a priest pulling aggro off the Paladin and having skeletons running amuck.

As for ignoring the shades... good luck with that. :)

The #1 mistake guilds make is thinking that Jindo is the primary DPS target...honestly, he is DEAD last.

The order should be SHADES --> Totems --> Jindo

This is not negotiable...AT ALL. The fight really is quite easy once people get it through their mind that this fight is about miniizing bad variables. Jindo doesn't hit hard...he hits like a little kid. It is his friends (totems and shades) that can really mess you up.

Another nice trick is use a feral druid tank. They are imune to the mind control thus make holding jindo in one spot easy.

All the healers should be in ONE spot. Because healers will get heal agro from the shades, guess where the shades will be when you get the curse =P. For grouping we do it like this

MTank
(DPS)
|
|
---| |
| |
Pit| Mage -- Healers -- Ranged
|
---|

Also get over the notion of optimizing DPS for totems...EVERYONE switches. I don't care if rogues loses combo points or people have to cancel spells. Those lost combo points or 1-2k damage mean nothing with somebody whacking others or jindo get a % life back.

Generally Trep is the most knowledgeable person I can think of on these boards. But I have to tell you about our Jin'Do kill last night.

After our initial failure when I started this thread, we didn't attempt Jin'Do again until last night.

Last night our raid leader wanted to try the opposite of the above strategy. We completely ignored shades, assigned 3 rogues to only kill totems, and had everyone else try to burn down Jin'Do as fast as possible.

It worked brilliantly. I was playing my priest instead of my warlock for this fight, and it just went incredibly fast. We only had 2 or 3 teleports and I think I ended the fight with half my mana pool. No one died. Two people in our raid used shadow protection potions.

Oh and he dropped the rare healing mace to boot. Just wanted to share the alternate strategy.

Well, there are always more then one way to win an encounter. Example is the Panther Boss I know of at least 3-4 ways to win that encounter. Most people settle on the more reliable way to win. With Jin killing the shades, controlling the totems and wearing down Jindo is the most consistant method todate. But if you beat the encounter then what ever way you used is the right way for you.

A couple of other things:

Set up all melee players as MT Targets on CT_Raid. That way if a player isn't doing his job you'll be able to tell straight away.

Have the casters stand closer in to Jin'do than you would usually. This cuts down the amount of time Melee spend running back and forth to deal with the shades. It's a couple of seconds saved for each melee player when they run back to deal with the shades and it will add up over the course of the fight.
