View Full Version : Patch Question - Installing

Okay so happy day for me!!!
My wife told me that I no longer have to wait 2 weeks to purchase everything I need to play! Sweet! :sunny:
So, there are at the moment 3 major patches that I've found. Which leads me to this question.
Should I run all of the patches before playing? :ponder:
The patches I found are:
WoW-1.11.2.5464-to-1.12.0.5595-enUS-patch
WoW-1.12.0-to-1.12.1-enUS
WoW-1.12.0-enUS-patch
These were found on filefront - I thought it may be easier to download and update them then to allow the automatic downloader to do it over several days or however long I'm sure it takes.
Should I install them all? Are there others that I should download and install or should I just let the the client downloader do its job?

Easy solution (potentially long depending on how the Blizz downloader fares on your comp) : launch the game, and let the blizz downloader gets everything you need.
Harder solution (but quick) : launch the game, get the version (located on the bottom left of the login screen), and go on filefront or other servers and get the required patches.
And, you have to install the latest patch to be able to play, it's not an option.
have a nice day

To always be on the safe side - download a universal patch, appliable to any patch version.

I think it's no secret, that I abhor the Blizzard downloader.
So, here's what I tend to do.
Ok, working under the premise that you have the US version of WoW and that you are active on the US servers.
You'll want the 1.12.0 EN-US patch and that 1.12.0 to 1.12.1 EN-US one.
First you install, the 1.12.0 one, which is the main updating patch, which contains all the info from all the previous patches. Then you install the 1.12.1 patch, which is an incremental for the 1.12.0 one. Meaning a slight update.
Now, if you're on the EU servers, then it's dependant upon the language setting which you have, as to which patch you'll have to dl. Could be Fr, Ge or Uk. Same principle as with the US version though. Big patch first, then the incrementals, if they're available online.
If, not then you'll still have to use the Blizzard downloader. :drunk:

Right on . . . I'm a US user . .. good ole' Florida. :sunny:
I'll check for those specific updates . . . Just in case, how long would you think that it would take if I went on the safe side and let the downloader do its duty? :ponder:

The safe side is that you download a universal patch (WoW-1.12.0-enUS-patch) and then the minor patch (WoW-1.12.0-to-1.12.1-enUS-patch)
from here:
http://m1.beenetworks.net/WoW-1.12.0-enUS-patch.exe (http://m1.beenetworks.net/WoW-1.12.0-enUS-patch.exe)
and minor patch here:
http://mirror.kragoth.net/download.php?file=7 (http://mirror.kragoth.net/download.php?file=7)
Enjoy!

Depending on the speed of your computer probably an hour on a non patch day (that is kind of average I think so if you re slow add some, if you are fast take some away)
On a patch day it like quadruples but since you will be adding smaller patches from now on that the whole honking 1+years worth of patches it shouldn't be too terrible.
A side note on computer performance is that you will do best with at least a gig of RAM. 512 is doable but not recommended and 256 is possible and I know people that play that way but the frustration is palpable.
Also .... Go Horde

I'm running a HP with a 2.8 GHz Proc / 160G HD / 1GB RAM / 256 Mb ATI Radeon 9750 Graphics Card (dual monitor support)/ 128 Mb SoundBlaster - so I'm good on the pc hmm I'm see how long it cues up for and if it's too long I'll just use the individual patches I have.
"Go Horde" - on this note - it it possible to have different factions on the same account?

TY for the links . . . Downloading again just to have . . .though I noticed that the minor patch you're pointing me to says this:
WoW-1.12.0.5595-to-1.12.1.5875-enUS-patch
vs. the one that I got from xfire or filefront (can't remember which)
WoW-1.12.0-to-1.12.1-enUS
what's up with the 5875 and the 5595? :ponder:

Think it was the same version there as well :)
Blizzard has build numbers on WoW, with each patch comes a new, higher, build number. To easily see what the build number is, they apply it in the end of the patch version, so the real patch version is 1.12.1 - but altogether it's 1.12.1.5875 so people can see build number.

Yes, they test numerous builds before they declare one as the official release. Internally (within Blizzard dev), you may have versions with other build numbers, but publicly, only one "build" becomes the officially released version.

Yup. Just not characters of both sides on a PvP or RP-PvP realms. There it's pick your poison. Not so with the other server types, where it's a matter of create what you want for as long as you have character slots. (And provided you haven't hit your max number of characters allowed.)

Damn! I was thinking about going PvP . . .so no characters from both on the same account? Only on PVE?

PvE and RP only.
PvP and RP-PvP are out.
Keep in mind, I'm talking about realms here, not accounts. There is a difference. Your account has access to multiple realms. You can have alliance characters on one PvP realm and Horde characters on another PvP realm, and have characters of both factions on a PvE realm, and all are on the same account.

I believe if physicists work REALLY RELLY hard, we just might have teleportation as common ways of traveling by 2040, that'd be a dream come true, unfortunately I hate physics, so it ain't gonna be me who's going to discover it, but I bet the person who does will be a million times richer than Gates.

Where shall we start? The only thing I know is that physicists have been able to teleport atoms successfully, and photographs, that's actully very cool, but what would turn us into small plain photos, a gnomotophotographicator? i doubt that....

Bill Gates would buy the company that was working on the design then when they release it you have to buy a new Version of Windows to use the machine. Even then there would be fatal errors, Hackers would exploit a design flaw allowing them to port into your house and set-up hidden cameras, replace your dog with a "dog" that records everything you do, sending the information back to the hacker, and finally you would port some people and they would get "stuck in the system" which of course would require a reboot.
Don't get me started on the hardware support. (Loosing a packet could be real bad...)
