If, you got the space, you could also just copy the content of disk, over to your HD, and see if you can sidestep this issue then. It's quite possible that your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM etc, whatever, drive is being finicky and simply doesn't like the WoW cd's, during a lengthy install process.
Not exactly uncommon, certain brands of cd's don't play well with certain brands of players.
Course, disk 1 could also just be damaged or dirty and in need of cleaning, or the drive is in need of cleaning.
Or you could indeed dl a client.
The choice is yours.

If the error message is being created while trying to read (or verify) the file on your hard drive, I would try scanning your drive and then defragging it before you try reinstalling. You could just have a bad sector on your drive that is causing the problem. I had a similar problem like that once before. It would copy a file to my drive but then couldn't read it back. After I did a defrag, the install was going to a completely different part of the drive and no more problems.

support alrdy told me to do defrag and scandisk my C:\ hardrive!
I have emailed my reports on msconfig and my other computer info. to them!
I downloaded the game off the mirror location on there website! still getting same message!
They told me so far that this message is typical if the game is alrdy installed on the computer, so the basic support guy im talking to is confused! He tells me to wait on the phone so he can ask the people around him; he says he needs to "talk to the guy" who does advance support to help me out on my stituation if I'm at the same progress after doing everything else I have done so far!
My guess is, I have another game that may be conflicting with the installation of WoW~hopefully Im right or it is an easy fix!

I just upgraded to Vista and got the same message while trying to install. What sucks is that I bought the game online and now the download isn't the full download, but the trial version of the game. I saved off the install files that I downloaded originally, but thats the source giving me the trouble.
-It's a clean install of vista and other apps install ok
-It fails at different points of the install
-I've tried to copy the install files to the hard drive with no luck
I'll probably end up just copying over the wow directory from my XP system, but I'd rather do a clean install.

If you're using Vista you must have full administrative access to install and play the game.

right click the WoW installer icon on the CD, choose "run as administrator" and try again. if it fails to install in normal mode try booting to safe mode and trying it there. If that still fails, i would reccomend running a CHKDSK /R on your HDD.
(To run CHKDSK /R: Get your windows install CD, boot to it, in the CD menu hit 'R' to repair using the 'Recovery Console'. At the recovery console window type 'CHKDSK /R', hit enter. It will probably take over an hour to run, but if it find any problems with the HDD it will attempt to repair it. Afterwards boot back up and re-try the install using admin rights).
Also, snypyromaniac please don't end every line of your post with an exclaimation mark, its irritating.
