hey guys im new to these particular forums, a former d2 player for its entire span of existence and have always loved pvp. Now about a year or so into wow i want to choose between what ive narrowed down as the 2 classes im most interested in.

I have a lvl 22 shammy and i see that they are pretty effective in the end game but i also see shadow priests simply pwning everything and everyone.

So my questions are:1.Which one of these classes do u think is most gear dependent (dont have a 60 main to fund or anything) in the late-end game (yes i do plan on getting there)?

2.Also i can see where discourse may arise in group or raid situations with these classes. They can both heal well and i hear that many guilds simply dont like melee shamans or shadow priests in instances or what not. So whats your take in that?

3.Which one of the classes lvls and grinds most efficiently?

4.And which one overall do you think is more effective in pvp? (keep in mind if i decide on a shammy it would be nice to continue on from 22 rather than start a lvl 1 priest, but still im going for the most efficient, gear friendly class)

I like my Priest.

But then, I'm new, so my opinion isn't worth much. However, this thread needed some post count, so I felt it was my duty to contribute.

you can choose the shadow priest. Shamans are the slowest class to level by far. My shadow priest is probably the fastest character i've leveled so far. As for end game, I truly think it matters more on the player and less on the character. I've seen some great priests and some great shamans. Sadly, the way this game is set up gear is the all determining factor in PvP. It doesn't matter how good you are, if someone has better gear then you, they are gonna win. I'm not saying always, but usually.

I have a priest rank 13 and play in a pvp guild; we also have 1 rank 13 shammy who is awesome. I'd say knowing your class and playing a given role is more important than "owning". Group play > all.

First, it all depends on your playstyle. Do you like melee? casting? healing? helping? Shaman will (likely) be more melee oriented, while priest is a caster. I'd say shaman is more gear dependent... a good weapon is a must, decent armor with good stats is also pretty important. Priest can get by with less.

For leveling, priest hands down. Shaman can be very fast (as kcma proved), but gets very boring in later levels. You basically put down a few totems and then autoattack. Priest really starts to get easy after level 20... but repetitious in that you follow the same pattern all the time. Since you are new, I wouldn't worry too much... both will be slow as you learn the game. Don't rush into grinding, enjoy the ride... there is plenty of time for grinding later. :) Also, as a priest you are very welcome in groups, but will be expected to always heal.

IMHO, both are very effective in PvP.... once you know what you are doing. For any PvP, you will usually do better when at the top end of the bracket (i.e. level 29, 39, 49, etc.) Personally, I love the middle brackets (30-39 and 40-49)... shaman do very well there, and shadowpriest in the 40s is a force. As a priest, you might take some abuse if you don't heal... just play how you want and ignore anyone who is obnoxious. (Shaman get this as well to a lesser degree)

Once you get to 25 or so, take your shaman to a BG and see how it goes. Be prepared to be overwhelmed, just always stay with the group, and keep practicing. And don't hesitate to make a priest alt... level 20 is pretty easy. Try both and see what you like.

I've got both a lvl 60 Shaman (Ench/Ele spec'd) and a lvl 60 Priest (shadow spec'd) here's my 2 cents

1.) I'd say my shammy is more gear dependant than my priest but that is probably because of my talent spec'd. I need my melee EQ and at the same time need to be able to throw my spell bombs / heals around.

2.) It depends on where you are raiding and who you are raiding with - a new and inexperienced raid group really need more healing spec'd players as it allows better overall recovery and is more "forgiving". As guilds grow, learns and gears up - it will allow more strategic flexibility and spec's. Many months back, my shammy's was raiding up to Rag in MC (no BWL or AQ exp) and was resto/elem spec'd (at the time) w/most tier 0 and two pieces tier 1 EQ. My priest is still new to raiding, working on getting UBRS to farm status

3.) By far, lvl grinding my priest was much faster than my shammy. Especially after level 40.

4.) Tough to say who's better at PvP. I've PvP'd much more with my priest and he's very effective at killing. Overall, both are very good at PvP
