Great forum you all have here, very heady stuff. I looked for the answer to this question here on this forum and on the web as well with no luck.

How does grouping with a player that has a much higher level than you affect your XP gain? Obviously it reduces the amount you earn, but does anyone know the formula?

Basically I want to know if there is a point (and what point that is) where a lower level player will cease earning XP from mobs that are not grey to him/her because the player he is grouped with is so much higher in level.

Thanks,

I've never had a 60 run me through anything less difficult than the deadmines, but my level 20 or so character was still getting a bit of exp from the kills. From this sort of thing I assume that I'd never get exactly zero exp from a kill. I'm almost tempted to organize a raid on Northshire valley to test this.

A level 60 running you through an instance cuts the experience down dramatically. But the reason you do it is because you are trying to get the items or complete the quests quickly and easily. If you want experience, then normal groups and leveling grinding is the thing to do.

You get less because if the higher level were to kill things your level with you there then and you gained the normal xp rate you would level much to fast therefore making it unfair towards players who do not have a much higher level friend.
