View Full Version : BC World PvP on a PvE Server?

Seems like Blizzard is adding more world PvP options with BC, and I was wondering how this works on PvE servers.

The only PvP I do on PvE servers is battlegrounds. I have a number of toons on PvP servers, but I only rolled them because BG's were more active on PvP servers prior to the cross server BG's. World PvP is 95% gankfest, so I tend to avoid it like the plague.

As a result, I have no idea how world PvP works on PvE servers...or if it even exists. Do I need to level up my PvP server toons if I want to experience the new world PvP content?

I'm also curious about what impact the 2:1 ratio of alliance to horde on most servers will have on world PvP objectives. Have we heard anything from beta testers?

It's still there, but it's 100% voluntary rather than it being forced on you like on a PvP server. On a "Normal" server, you have to "flag" yourself for world PvP, either by attacking a guard from the opposite faction, attacking someone from the opposite faction who's already flagged, or typing /pvp (/pvp off to start the 5 minute timer to unflag). Oh, stepping inside one of the capital cities of the other faction(Org, IF, UC, TB, SW, Darnassus) also flags you. It still happens, but only when both people want it to happen, because if you don't want to get ganked or participate, don't flag.

My original server (Kalecgos - PVP) was 2:1 Horde:Alliance, so we had horrible queue's and there wasn't much world PVP at all, other than going to gank random Alliance lowbies. So I transferred off and went to Whisperwind, a normal server. Now the population is reversed, 2:1 Alliance:Horde. The queue's went from 90 minutes for AV on Kalecgos, to instant on Whisperwind, and they're still instant now after X-realm. But as for the World PvP objectives, the population imbalances make them fairly pointless for the faction that's outnumbered.

Take for example the current PVP objectives... The towers in EPL. On my current server (again twice as many Alliance players as Horde), all 4 towers are almost constantly Alliance controlled. If you spend an hour or two with a few people to cap them all (If you can even do it without getting 23v5 (Or 5v2, etc) zerged as soon as they notice you trying to cap them)... Yay, you get the bonuses! 5% hp, 5% damage to undead. Cool. Well, then you either log out after a few hours work, or head to Strat/Scholo to reap the rewards of your work... Halfway through the run (or by the time you log on next), all 4 towers are back in Alliance hands again, because there aren't enough Horde willing to defend them while you're gone.

I don't see the objectives in TBC to be much different. The dominant population always own the objectives, while the lesser population will get them every once in awhile. Most likely when a random group decides to take them over in the off-hours, A.K.A - You and two of your guildies at 3am.

Thanks for the in depth response. That's exactly the information I was looking for.

I'm a total altaholic. I prefer making battleground PvP toons instead of leveling up. But especially with the coming expansion, I want to commit and finally reach 60, heh.

I just looked up the census information for my current Main server on warcraftrealms.com. Seems like it's 1:1.4 in Horde's favor, so it'll be interesting to see how it works out.

Just a side note, /pvp is a toggle; no need for the off parameter.
