I wonder if I could get some pointers on how to track down a problem I am having. Since the last patch, my UI has been freezing randomly when a mob dies. I can play for about an hour before it starts happening, but once it does it can happen again relatively soon. The only way I can recover the game is by opening task manager and killing the wow.exe process (usually blindly, because WoW is so badly frozen it won't give up the foreground).

It only seems to hapen when a mob dies. I have a lot of addons running, but I have always done so and this is a recent problem. A quick summary of what I have is about 50% of the Cosmos distribution, all of the Discord mods except DART, the Monkey Quest mods, the Auctioneer package, and a fair set of FuBar plugins (old and new). IN addition to all that, I have a few standalones.

I've disabled, and in sometimes uninstalled completely, any mod that I've changed or added since the problem started. I suspect I'm freezing during a garbage collection or data collection cycle, but I have disabled large blocks of AddOns temporarily without it going away.

Two things I am wondering about: what mods might potentially hook into a mob death event? Could it be a general WoW issue (like sound ... and I only am thinking of that because I was farming satyrs for felcloth for hours without a problem, then killed one wyvern and crashed: the wyverns screech when they die, and the satyrs die quietly) and I'm barking up the wrong tree looking at my mods.

I have memory for AddOns set to infinite. All the mods currently running are up-to-date.

Any ideas? If not, any thought where to look? I know I can just disable everything and add them in one by one, but that will take weeks since it takes so long to happen, and I can't be sure when it doesn't that I really fixed it. What if I just think I got it, and the next kill would have froze it? The only certain thing is when it freezes ...

I'd, just to be safe, try grinding for a while with no addons and if it happens, you know where to look! :P Yeah not very helpful but best I can do.

There a couple thing that might causing this. First up, mods not agreeing with each other. This is usually pretty easy to fix. First of all, disable all your mods. Then enable the dependencies (ie. Discord Library, Khaos, Sea, etc.) Then enable mods one at time. Log in and test. Rinse and repeat.

The other thing that could be causing freezes is due to memory. Either try increasing the amount of memory that your mods can use. Either that or set it to 0 for infinite (which you have done). The other thing you can do is upgrade your PC's RAM.

Have you upgrading any of your system drivers? Things like drivers for things like sound cards (*cough* Creative *cough*) can mess other thing ups. If your problems started just after you updated drivers, then try doing a system restore back to when things worked.

Frankly if I where you, I would dump ALL of the Cosmos AddOns. There a lot of well written AddOns that do same job as the Cosmos AddOns but without the performance hit. Also consider replacing most if not all of the Discord mods. ag_UnitFrames or XPerl are great replacements for DUF, Bartender2 or Bongos will replace DAB, and MoveAnything! or Visor (plus Visor GUI) will replace DFM. Again you will save on the memory issues and cut down lag and bloat. Update all of the FuBar Addons (look for WinAceUpdater on SourceForge.net to make that quick and easy). Many of the Monkey AddOns can be replaced by FuBar plugins (ie replace MonkeyQuest with QuestFu, etc) further cutting down on bloat and freeing up some memory.

So far I've disabled everything and all seems well, so it's definitely a mod issue. After a few hours or plain vanilla, I re-enabled all of the Discord mods, since I missed those the most, and I think it's OK, but I also think I need to give it more time to be sure. Just before I logged off, I had a considerable lag at the death of a mob right about the time I would generally get a lockup, so I am by no means confident it's not Discord at this point.

That said, I have been using Discord for months without a problem; something in the WoW client must have changed for this to suddenly be an issue.

I figured it out. It's SheepSafe. Whenever I used it to sheep a mob, when it died my UI froze. It took four days and a good hunch to track that issue down. It's definitely a new issue too, I never had trouble with it before.

I have the same problem Deanor, i had tracked it down to sheepsafe and titan (or something in titan) but I've had system lock when i haven't used sheepsafe, did it happen EVERY time you used sheepsafe? or not always?

Edit: (revelation, could it be when someone ELSE sheeps a mob though? Because i'm always raiding with mages.. I am a druid that uses Sheepsafe for sleep.)
