Good afternoon fellow WoWers!

I am still realitively new to wow (highest character is 45), and I don't fully understand the whole Tier Armor system.

How do you know if you have Tier equipment?

What is and how can you tell the difference between Tier 1 and Tier 2 equipment?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thank you!

At lvl 45 you don't have tier anything. But they are basically set items made with a specific class in mind. You start getting tier 0 pieces typically around lvl 58 when running scholomance/Strat/LBRS. Tier 0 is made with particular classes in mind but at the same time they are class specific... so a mage can wear what was intended as warlock tier 0 for instance.

Tier .5 comes from a series of upgrade quests where by you upgrade your tier zero piece to better pieces. You need to have the right class pieces to get the upgrades though... so like even though on my mage I plan on wearing a couple of pieces of dreadmist until I start raiding with him I won't be able to upgrade those pieces to tier .5. I'd have to get the mages pieces to upgrade them.

Tier 1 are set items that you get off the various bosses of Molten Core (40 man raid instance). They are all lvl 60 required and only usable by their respective classes.

Tier 2 comes from Black Wing Lair (40 man raid instance)

Tier 2.5 comes from the Temple of Anh'Qiraj (40 man raid instance)

Teir 3 comes from Naxxaramus (40 man raid instance)

To be technical, not all of tier 2 comes from BWL. The head item comes from Onyxia and the pants drop off Ragnaros in Molten Core.

Well yeah... technically... just speaking in general for brevity's sake.

Ive never heard of 2.5....

2.5 is just one way of referring to it Stigg. Enough guilds end up skipping much of AQ40 that the AQ sets are only semi-relevant. They're only 4 pieces each anyway.

yeah it's not an official tier... but enough people classify AQ 40 as 2.5 that it merited mentioning.

5 pieces, actually.

And the Tier 2.5 pieces are pretty darn good for some classes. The Warrior pieces are great for DPS Warriors, and the Rogue, Mage, and Warlock pieces are nothing to complain about.

Edit: Typo.

True enough. Its just been my experience that since Naxx came out that the first significant speed bump in AQ40 sends most guilds right on to Naxx.

The most common speed bump being the Twin Emperors. Besides, the AQ40 sets are mostly hideous.

Heh, true.

We decided to learn AQ40 before entering Naxx, so our priorities were slightly different.

We're pretty much in the same boat. Of the 8 guilds ahead of us in raid progression (on our server), only 2 bothered with C'thun, 5 have never bothered with the trio, and no guild on our server has ever beat Viscidus, in spite of having defeated the 4 horsemen, Maexxna, etc.

We're working on the Twin Emps ourselves right now (we've put off the trio and Viscidus till later) and our goal since starting AQ is to kill C'thun before Christmas.

We've also played around with trash in Naxx. I have to admit it looks like its more fun than AQ40. I like that its compact. I swear when we go in on our second AQ day it takes like 15 minutes of bug riding just to get to where we left off on the previous raid day. AQ40 is just way too big. I can't even imagine having to walk the whole way.

Wait until you down the Emps. Every week, once you've killed them, you can then talk to an NPC to port directly to their room. The same goes for C'Thun. When you've cleared to him, you can then port directly there.

We have Skeram through the Twin Emps pretty much on farm status (i.e. the occasional wipe, usually due to stupid things; our last wipe was on Skeram, of all things). The Bug Trio still gives some problems. We down Ouro weekly, but he can be nasty if he submerges a lot. C'Thun we've spent 2 nights working on; we got him to phase 2 on our last 2 attempts, with 30 people alive in the last attempt.

Our officers decided to start working in Naxx once we downed Ouro. Now we alternate. One week we'll do 2 nights of Naxx and 1 of AQ40; the next week we'll switch (4 nights of 40-mans a week, one of which is dedicated to BWL).

We've been trying to do Skeram through C'Thun the first night, and beat on C'Thun the next night.
