Quests for Un'Goro Power Gems???

I went to Un'Goro crater for the first time last night. Whislt I was there I noticed a number of mining type nodes for different coloured power gems (I forget their exact name and you don't need mining in order to collect them).

Anyway I collected them whereever I saw them as I figured they must be useful for soemthing. Auctioneer states they are used in 4 quests, but none of the quests that I already had or later picked up in that place near the cave to the far north of the map (forget its name...something refuge?).

So my questions are: what quests are they used in and where do you pick up those quests?

I cannot check it out on thotbot, alakazam or wowhead as work blocks those sites...

Or is it a complete wast of inv space and time to collect them?

At Marshal's refuge (in the north) where the expedition is stranded is a cave. Inside the cave is J.D Collie ... she has the quests...for starters she wants 7 of each crystal, then sends you to discover the 3 phylons. All in all easy 15k - 19k xp

I went into the cave and had a look around and moused over that person from a distance but didnt see any exclamatin point. Must have been lost in the background. It is just a pain to get there given the lack of a FP. Oh well...

There is a FP just next to the cave up the hill to the right :smiley:

Also after completing the second quest You can use a combo of crystals to get some useful (or unuseful ) thingies and effects.

Haha you really don't pay much attention do you? There is a flight path right by the cave now. Also, I think the girl goblin inside the cave doesn't give you the quest until you actualy talk with her a bit.

Ha ha indeed. I didn't go looking for a FP as I had read somewhere there wasnt one, but obviously that was an old post before it was patched in.

Live and learn I guess....

PS I have done the spire quests now and I agree they are well worth doing. Fairly easy and good XP to be had for doing so.

Flightpaths in Ratchet and Un Goro added in patch..um..1.10? 1.11?

You will have to go there a lot anyhow if you decide to do "Linken's sword" (mumbling guy in Arashall's refuge, a tad downhill, show him the items / photographs that can be recovered from the bottom of a little lake in the south east, where the raptors breed)

The power crystals are also materials for a few crafting recipes (Thorium blacksmithing recipes are the ones I know about, there may be more).

There are a number of pylons in Ungoro Crater. Each pylon takes a combination of crystals to give you some buffs (a 'land of the Lost" reference, I believe).

Yes, they are also needed in the "Libram" enchants that the BE in Burning Steppes does...
