Ranks are no longer applicable. You get gear by trading marks of honour and honour points.
You can get full rank 12-13 epic set for:
63,750 honour points,
70 AB marks
50 AV marks
30 WSG marks
But I'm alittle unsure if this is good idea for blizzard, it's bad enough with the rep farmers in AV.
PVP used to be about getting the title of Grand marshal and having your name in lights on the wow website but now it's all about the loot.

As with new content or changes in any MMO, it is impossible to please everyone . . . period. There very well could also be changes to the amount of tokens / honor needed either up or down before release.
I understand completely the frustration many have that have spent the time to grind out honor and rep for the big rewards. Yes it is nice to see GM next to your name or whatever rank you may have. The problem with the current system, is that it only rewards "hardcore" players that have the time to spend 12+ hours a day in BG or those that can form premades etc etc.
The hardcore players are the MINORITY of the warcraft population. There have been numerous blue posts in the main forums over the past several months that have said Blizz was trying to balance the gap between the hardcore and the more casual players. Raiders are having the same frustration as the high lvl pvpers
IMO, this works out just great for everyone. If you (not directed at OP, but you in general) are a hardcore pvper or raider, you will still get the even better weapons now then the rest of the casual players. The difference, is that it will at least give those of us that have other commitments a chance at some of the higher end items/ content.
Even with the numbers the OP gave, with the new honor system giving 10 -55 honor points per kill . . . that is still over 4000 kills to reach that honor mark if they don't adjust the numbers. You hardcore pvpers will hit that in a week or two while it will take the rest of us awhile to get there. As with all MMO changes, just got to take a wait and see attitude to see what actually happens.

It's because the pvp grind was absolutely insane at upper levels. I feel really bad for the folks who already invested the time, but this change hopefully makes rewards available for a larger percentage of the players.
The cost for the epic set...do we know that the HP and marks are equivalent to what we have now? If it is, that seems rather cheap.
edit: Previous post said HP system was changed as well. I agree that 4000+ kills for the set seems reasonable. That is an awful lot of kills for a normal player. I've been pvp'ing a lot this month and I know it would take me a while to get that many.

If you look at the numbers, though, the approximate time to get those tokens really is going to take longer than you'd expect. In the current system, you are required to PVP literally non-stop, all week, in order to reach GM (at least on my server), whereas you can get all of your Tier 1/2 gear in significantly less /played time, since MC is actually "pugged" sometimes--and successfully. It just doesn't make sense to put in 10x the effort to getting GM as the guy who's raiding BWL/AQ40, and getting fairly similar gear.

The primary difference is the time frame. Now, you have to devote an insane amount of time each and every week. With the new system, you still have to put in the time, but it's at your own pace. That's the biggest difference.
But they are taking away ranks completely? I know it's largely a vanity thing for some people, but it did give some idea as to how good and dedicated a person was at PvP.

You are kidding, right?
NONE of the Grand Marshals did it to be able to get the gear that only they can wear?
Oh ....PLEASE.....

Until AQ40 / Naxx gear, GM was simply the best you could get, as far as DPS gear goes.
In other words... the current Grand Marshalls with no lives that get to play 24/7 and get rewarded for it... QQ more.

Good point, I suppose, for me as a player I'd love to be GM, I visit sites like http://www.wow-rankings.de/en/ and think "Man I'd like to be up there with them" but I doubt the peeps that did get to GM didn't think the same and that's probably where I'd fail, the loot side of thing would be much more of a goal then some stupid title. or should it?
At the end of the day, the loot will always change, bouncing from instance to instance but your toons name on sites like wow ranking and wow europe, is for me a better prise and would probably last longer then loot and the game interest. But that is just me and I'm not speaking on behalf of anyone else.
