Hi I was wondering if there was some sort of dueling etiquette, more specifically are you allowed to heal yourself? Up until today, I've been dueling players who heal themselves during the duel, but today while dueling a priest, he told me that during duels your not suppose to use potions and heal yourself etc...
Is this true?
Thank you

Healing is defenately allowed, if i played a class that could heal i would.
Maybe he is an old Diablo2 player(it wasnt really accepted that you heal in that game) but in this game it is normal that you use your talents to the full.
If you need to heal yourself, Do it!

I think the key word is use pots... but really I could care less. I lot of people look down on those who use pots during a duel. And really what's the point? It's a duel ... it's like practice so what's the point of using a pot that costs you money?
Still if someone wants to win a meaningless duel that badly then use all the pots you want. If it is an innate ability specific to the class though people really shouldn't have a problem with it... Being able to heal one's self is the only reason Druids can really compete in a duel for instance. And even if someone does use pots and wins... what's the big deal? I hate whiners.

There is no scorecard...Use what you want of the game mechanics provided by Blizzard....
Why pay so close attention to the 'rules'...Spend time on the techniques you use against a given class...heh

I'll not use potions if they take off their enchanted or crafted items. I'm an alchemist, so using my products is part of my play.

Ack... If I got 1g every time someone said "Put your pet away first" before a duel, I could buy half of Kalimdor! :D

Duelling ethic? Well, usually, what's agreed before the duel, like for example, the no-pots agreement or the no-trap agreement (heck, any agreement) is the ethic. If you hadn't agreed to anything when duelling, you are not breaking any of the ethics seeing that there's no ethics in the first place.
So the guy who goes 'omg you cheat pot-drinking' might as well shove that rambling up their <censored>.
All rules has to be made BEFORE the duel. If there are no rules, pot-drinking, traps, kiting, anything, all do not break any ethics despite what they say.

If you and your duelling mate agrees to not use trap, then don't use it. But if that agreement doesn't exist....
Trap away!
My point is not 'not to use trap' because that's like mage without polymorph or rogue without stealth. My point is if you and your opponent agreed on some rules before duelling, follow it.
... I dont understand why you waste your time making "rules" before a duel.
If I wanna duel somebody, then I just /duel and take em on. If they wanna use a pot, thats fine, I personally prefer not to use em (I aint gonna waste my money on a pot for the sake of not being first to get to 1hp.) but if they want to, go for it, more satisfaction for me when I pwn their face in the end.
If they win, so be it, duel them again while cooldown is still counting, and if they still wanna use pots, let them, its their style of play :D
I play a lock, so I fear bomb and dot the crap outta anyone I duel, so if a pot is what they need to make it more even, thats fine... if I really wanna get nasty, I just cast up a Major Healthstone for free before battle, that'll show em :P

Personally, I rather go down and dirty in any fight. However, some people prefer to set rules before duels. When they decide to set rules, they ought to follow them, so as not to appear rude or stuff.
Just because you are not bothered with making rules before duels, doesn't mean nobody else will do the same. And the rules that some people agree on before duelling tend to be simple, like 'no pots, kk?' or 'no pets, kk?' or etc.
I guess the etiquette is: If you accept a duel from an opponent after he has made a condition/rule, you had, by choosing to accept the duel, also chose to accept the conditions/rule, thus you are obliged to follow them even if it puts you in the disadvantage.
Thus, if you don't agree with whatever agreement that is arranged before the duel, do not accept the duel until either one of you compromise, revise the condition or call the duel off completely.
ummmm... I sorta realised that people makes rules... just saying I dont see the point, its just a duel lol
PvP, whole different story, I see people that drops dozens of pots in a battleground to try and get that slight advantage over the competition... I understand that, you actually get honor / rep for winning in there, but a friendly (or unfriendly?) 1 on 1 fight, really just wasting your time... how about I just let you beat me and then you can give me the pot you would have wasted before I pwned you :P lolol

Reread my post. I'm just stating that as an example of a condition your opponent might impose on you before you duel. I did not specifically say that you must not use traps. My point is stated on the post before Farq.

I see. Anyway, don't worry. I had yet to hear someone saying 'no traps'. Most I heard was 'no pots'.

Why does a pointless exercise need 'etiquette' anyway?
