Looking for a little knowledge-

New to WoW and just getting into the BG scene over the last couple weeks. My question is - is there enough time to make a worth-while difference in Honor Ranks before the expansion?

Does it make a big difference in the accumulation of honor/rank that I am only lvl 39 (i.e., do I need to grind to 60 to make a real difference?)?

Utimately I need to decide whether to get back to XP or make a push to see how far I can get.

Thanks in advance-

at lvl 39 it's not really worth getting any ranks anymore, except rank2 maybe for the trinket, and buying your mount cheap ;)

if your close to exalted to something, to get a certain item, or whatever, you should do that quickly too :D

Hold at 39th... hit your BGs hardcore for honor... and hope you can score Sergeant before the TBC pre-release patch hits.

Then use the extra 10% savings to buy your mount/riding skill, and nab the Coproral Trinket. (If you're lucky, and can push out enough rep in the time, you could bank the Friendly/Honored items for whichever BG Rep you ground out for later use, as you level.) This is assuming that you're on a predominant "Win" server/faction.

If you have a winning WSG faction, then I'd pound out to Friendly, at least... if you don't have an overabundance of trinkets, already. Or go with AB, and try and get to the nice belt selections.

Now that sounds like a challenge, and a trinket and discounted horse would be nice... tempting, I'll give it some thought. I'd just hate to go for it and then miss it!

Well, the discount for honor ranks is rank 4, right? (Sgt).

Update -

After this week's server update, I'm a Grunt and close to Rank 3. Should already have the honor to make it easily next week. Is there a cap or is it possible to make Sr Seargent (or beyond) after 2 weeks of grinding?

My only problem now, I've got stacks of about 20 tokens for both WSG and AB each and if I hand even one more in I will ding 40. My gear is decent for now, but it would be weak for the 40-49 brackett. I've heard the extra tokens will be mailed to you, but expire in 24 hours, so I'm looking to do one more big grind session to stack another 20 tokens, then I'll hand them all in at once and XP to 45'ish before I get back on the BG.

Rank 3 is the discount, I think...

Private/Scout - Tabard
Corporal/Grunt - Trinket
Sergeant/Sergeant - Cloak+10%discount

As for rep-grinding... If you're pushing for one rep, and want to go whole-hog, then hit the BG's all week, but be sure to get all your affairs in order, clear your weekend schedule, and make it abundantly clear that you're going to do a 24hr Binge Session.

Then, hit those BG's hard for as much of those 24 hours as you can... And just shy of the 24th hour, hand in your marks. Cycle from the mailbox to the NPC for each and every mark you have. You'll level, and make a huge chunk into the next level from the exp-gains. But you'll make a bunch of Rep in one go.

Remember: 3marks = 50rep

Feel free to keep a running count as you go... You start with 20marks on hand. Add 1 for every loss, and 3 for every win. Keep an eye on your current rep, and calculate the remaining rep to the next level. I was aiming for Honored with WSG, so I knew how many marks I'd need to get to there. After every 5 or so matches, I'd re-calculate the tally, and see if the needed number had shifted any. (If you're losing with no flag-caps, then the process becomes a real pain, as you watch the time tick by with very little change in the bottom line.)

If you prefer the long-haul, then keep on letting the marks fade out from the mailbox... sometimes it's tough watching them be "wasted", but sometimes it's better dealing with players and tactics that you know, and have adapted to. The difference of a single tier can mean whole new fighting styles, and tactical changes that will be hard to deal with, as you'll be under-leveled and under-geared compaired to the opposition.

Thanks for the strategy - that's my plan. I'll do the 24 hour grind and see where I can get, then turn them all in and get a few levels before bothering to head back to the battlegrounds.

Tough to move on because as an enhancement spec'd Shaman, lvl 39 is the promiseland since we can shred casters in moments and still go toe-to-toe with most any (non-twinked) melee types. Plus, wolf-form is still a major class advantage on the battlefield that becomes much less useful when everyone gets mounts 40+. At the same time, I can't see letting the marks go to waste.

Thanks again!
