View Full Version : Anywhere for new players to go to learn about the game?

As a past player of Diablo II and an active forum member on their boards, I know what its like talking to newbies and explaining the same questions over and over to them.
Unfortunately the tables have turned and I find myself a newbie to the WoW scene. Completely taken back by the sheer size of the game, I find myself not knowing anything about what a 5/5/5 build is, or any of the abbreviations you use.
What I'm asking is, are there any sites or a newbie guide on this forum I can read before asking my hundreds of dumb questions?
Thanks in advance, and try not to be too harsh on me please.

Hmmm..first of all welcome :)
The game takes you by the hand for a good time. Questgivers are close together, the areas small, and it is not before level 13 or so that you are actually send into the big world...or even 20, when you leave the borders of your own territory into contested.
Talents don't come into play before level 10..and as for 5/5/5 builds...there ain't any
These builds (0/30/21) often refer to endgame talents, by then you will be a pro.
So...second of all...what character do you play, are you on a PvP or PvE server? Horde or Alliance? Do you have some specific question?
If you have chosen a class, the class forums oftne have build stickies that answer a lot of your questions already...

Lots of sites. This one lists a bunch of information, as do many others.
Use Google since posting the sites here would get me squashed by the administrators...
try playing that game... that's how i learned... it might work for you too...

Well thanks for the info guys. In response to Det, I'm a level 17 Human Warrior on a PvE server. Kinda lost in the art of building up my character. I take it you cannot reassign talent points once they have been allocated?
I currently have 5 in cruelty and 2 in unbridaled wrath. Not sure what type of warrior I want to be, but I do like the idea of being able to dish out a load of damage, whilst still maintain a shread of defence  greedy I know.
Thanks again for the hints.

Hello,
I think that between this site and the main wow site you will find most of what you are looking for.
A few links:

Good Luck!

Go to your class trainer. He has an option to undo your talent point assignment. Fair warning, it's going to cost you 1 gold, and the more you do it, the more expensive it gets with the max being 50 gold. (1, 5, 10, etc, iirc.)
If, you don't mess around with your build for a while, then the price will eventually drop back down to, I think it was either 5 or 10 gold max. That is, unless you go build crazy, because it'll follow the same set up then, from say 5 to 10 to 15 etc to the 50 max again.
Hope, that wasn't too fuzzily explained.

there are unfortunatly so many sites whit great information BUT something connected to gold selling ( adds etc ) which we are not allowed to link to here. If you want me to give you some links please write me a PM :)
but basicaly, this forum has it all :) try the forum of the class which interests you. try the statistics & formula forum. The more you read the more you'll understand.
oh, and never listen to kcma :P

Warrior class forum is where I looked...well..my warrior only made it to 23 so far, concentrating on my lv 60 warlock and 57 priest..but Fury/arms seems the way to level...while protection is the way to be loved in raids....
