Anyone notice that Blizzard is now sponsoring the "site which shall not be named" with their CCG?
I fully expect to see the "D.A.R.E. to keep kids off Drugs!" logo plastered on the sides of Cuban speedboats anyday now.

I've not seen any gold ads on any site linked to by wow-europe.com.. is this on the US site?

Is it a search site? Like, one where you can check out items? Or is it just a full-fledge gold selling site?

Hypocrasy? Blizzard sees $ more likely.

I think some of you take this whole moral high ground with regards to gold selling way to far. I don't agree with buying or selling gold but if they aren't advertising on a site that actually sells gold I fail to see the problem. They are advertising on a site they know their market demographic is going to visit. There are no gold selling ads on the site itself...
I've always found the policy here a bit comical to be honest. Absolutely forbidden to link said site... but then everyone goes home and uses it from time to time anyway. What's really being accomplished other than appearing to be ethically superior? People act like gold selling/buying is a violation of basic human rights at times though. Seems a bit stuffy to cut off people from valuable resources of information on the mere possibility that they are going to see a gold selling ad and click on it to me but hey... their site ... their policy.

In a real world example it is kind of like buying something stolen from a crackhead. While you didn't buy him crack specifically you gave him the ability to get it for himself.
Advertise on a site owned by the goldselling company = more money for the gold selling company and more gold selling.
Oatmealsmurf
16-11-2006, 09:25 PM
Again... too far... this is not a crack head this is not something of moral importance. Besides I don't think it's really an accurate comparison. Would you call a member of the American Heart and Lung Association a hypocrite for buying a package or oreos even though Philip Morris is the parent company of Kraft? Somehow I doubt that even the top most governing member of the non-profit have a kitchen devoid of Kraft Products.
The little money they get from a banner ad on the database website in no way effects the ability of the parent company to perform their day to day services of gold selling. Plus Blizzard does work with the parent company in an effort to put controls on the industry seeing as there is no legal way to stop it.
I think it would be akin to telling a democratic political candidate that they are hypocritical for running campaign adds on the Fox Network.

prohibition never works....people will get what the need regardless of laws regulations etc...Gold selling or selling of virtual property is demanded by many people therefore it exists in a free market.
Much like the recently passed anti internet gambling "law" will never work, buying of virtual property will continue...the solution to the "problem" isnt to make more laws that make it illegal. The solution is to make it legal, regulate, and control it. If the laws/rules don't represent the people than liberty/freedom get smaller in the rearview. Before we know it we are like Cuba stuck in 1955.

To be perfectly honest I have used the "forbidden to be named" site many times and have never noticed any gold selling adds.
The only add I ever get is one inviting me to apply for a green card to work in the USA, maybe only American users of the site get the adds???

There aren't any gold selling ads on that particular site, Orb. It is known, however, that the site in question is owned by a parent company that engages in gold selling. The leadership at this site has concluded on that basis that since it is affiliated with a known gold seller that they will not allow any linking to said site.

It's not at all like prohibition. It's like a movie theatre not allowing you to bring in outside food. Yes people still do it, but a lot of us know that they do it because it's their right to, and respect it.

Oh, I liked it reminds me of the current scare tactics used by the United states government on its own people.
Everytime people get a little complacent the government would up the threat level. Keeping people controlled by scaring them horribly in the media.
Just my opinion tho!
I like all the psychological type experiment stuff, lord of the flies etc.

rgirty, you have no clue wtf's happening in America apparently. The threat level means nothing to us, when we SEE something big happening, then we're worried. It's not the government. You must be thinking of China and stuff where the government COMPLETELY controls the place.

KE I love your post structure and how "I don't have a clue WTF is happening"
I think you have some good things to say in a lot of your posts, but the way you word the things you say leaves a sour taste in a lot of peoples mouths and makes them disregard you completely. I wish you post with more respect, and perhaps say something like.
"i don't see it the way you do" or "why do you believe that" instead of "you have no clue WTF is happening in america"
I'm not going to get in a bashing or flame war with you, I just wish you would put a little more tact into your posts.
Also, the threat level does mean a lot of things to a lot of people, while you may not care about it a lot of people do. "us" cannot generalize the entire country. The recent elections should be a fine indicator that the country is as polarized as it has ever been. Not many groups have the same beliefs, even within their own city/state/ethnic background or religious party.
If you truly do not believe the media uses "scare news" then I'll tip my hat to you. However, on 1 of the few major television news networks just this week an hour of television was based upon the middle east jihad on americans, then followed by an hour of child kidnapping and murder stories.
I'm not going to get into a bashing war with you, you have your views and I have mine.

Actually, I submit that you might have it wrong....
The gov't does indeed control the place, and HUGE amounts of money depend on what the public perceives...
And, the gov't has all of the data...In other words, when you threat level goes up or down, it is only the result of people making decisions based on what they want us to do...We went into Iraq because of WMD....which are where? oops...heh
The people in power will do nearly everything to remain there....

In 1938 there were 1400+ media outlets for news. In the 1960's this number had been reduced to a mere 150 companies choosing the news for us. Today there are only 6 media outlets for the news. Go figure. The news you get to see is heavily regulated by the companies who own the rights to broadcast the news. Best place to see what is happening is the ticker tape from reuteurs. But then even they change their tunes if something disagreeable makes it through and proves later on that it needs to be remedied. Disinformation is a fantastic tool that is being used more and more often.

"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist."
Fitting quote from a great movie ;).
"We know that the regime has produced thousands of tons of chemical agents, including mustard gas, sarin nerve gas, VX nerve gas."
I don't know about you, but I loose my thousands of tons of chemical agents every now and then. Like, right now, I'm missing 2000 tons of VX.
It -should- be in the apartment here somewhere, but I just cant seem to find it.

Mmm. Doughnuts.
Seriously though, it's not like you need to be paranoid of everything you're told is a lie. Even though its most likely either one sided, shaped a bit or just not factually correct at all times.
Both facts and wmds can be tricky at times. They both tend to hide very well =)
On the upside, just because you are paranoid doesnt mean no one is following you. Or however the old conspiracy buff saying goes :p.

rgirty: I put it simply, I don't see any reason to take a long time to explain what I'm shooting for. What I said fits what I wanted to say. Period. I never said the media DOESN'T try to scare us. The media has nothing to do with America though, the media is an all around the world thing. I don't like the media too much, but I keep up on the news.
mesonm: Yes, they do control us I guess, but what government doesn't? If we weren't at least partially controlled by the government, we wouldn't be the country we are today. We went to Iraq not only to get the WMD's (Which we actually DID find, if you saw the news lately, you would know that. There's actually a real army person, I forget exactly what rank, but I believe a General or something, that has documents of 143 (or so) WMD's.) but to take out a Terrorist named Saddam Hussein and many other Terrorists in that country. He killed MILLIONS of people (Example: The Kurds.) with WMD's, but I guess we'll just overlook that?
KE may have something interesting to say about WOW, but he is never right about american politic and history :p
and yes, the terroriest Saddam killed many, so has the Europeans and americans. what's your point? i mean, look at phillipine and mexico, they just all became spanish speaking catholics because they all had a dream one night when god told them to convert and learn spanish? :D
the victors writes the history and that's always been the case and will always be the case. it's not about who's right and who's wrong, it never was :) so there's really no reason for you to feel so... morally superior ;)
ps. i wont be in china for a while :p
pps. you guys should be nicer to KE! he's obviously a victim of republican brainwashing!!

Ohhh, I like how you put a capital T on terrorist. Grrrr! Arggggh! Eeeek!
You realise the US government pretty much did overlook that for a decade or so? And that he was supplied with anthrax, VX gas etc. by the US prior to the first gulf war?

I was talking about America and Iraq and the war, I wasn't talking about anything else. I see no reason to go through other wars, that would take forever to talk about all the wars that are almost the same. I'm closer to a republican than a democrat because I'd rather have phone tapping than gay abortionists running around all day. Read my last sentence on Suave's reply for your "morally superior" thing.

We put Saddam and the Baathists in power because we didn't like the king before him. We put Osama in power by supplying his mujahedeen with weapons and training. We supplied Iran with a lot of weapons as well during the Reagan administration.
And now we want to take credit for eventually cleaning up the messes we've made (especially since we're actually making the situation even worse)? Why shouldn't we have to accept some responsibility for the atrocities committed in the meantime by the folks we helped put in power?
I'd laugh if it weren't so tragic.
And no we didn't remove Saddam because of the evils he's done. Dictators elsewhere in Africa like Mugabe have committed worse atrocities on a larger scale and none of the republicans or conservatives in power has lifted a finger to stop them.
I'm guessing you get your "news" from Fox, the National Review, and folks like Mike Savage and Ann Coulter.

I'm done posting in this thread, it's just taking up time. It's also way off topic, and it's annoying to see so many people who hug democrats and get on their knees to... It's pretty funny to see how everyone turns on Bush, mainly just because it's what everyone's doing. Get your own brain and use it, stop joining the crowd. Anyway, have fun babbling on about how this "must be him running away" or something, cause I don't care.
