View Full Version : Best mobbing class?

Ok, so current I got a lv 14 gnome mage (first char), and a lv 20 troll ranger (nice class =) ), now I was wondering what class + profession would be the best mobber?

With neither my mage nor my ranger (yes I know they're low-leveled ;) ) I can take on multiple enemies, so I was wondering what class would be the best char for dealing with multiple enemies at once?

Thanks =)

ranger? hunter you mean? lol
no classes are high on survival early on, but they all get better as time passes
mages can dish out some massive damage to many mobs at same time with arcane explosion, blizzard, cone of cold, etc... but not at lvl 14, heh. You also have the sheep spell which puts a humanoid/beast out of combat with you so you can deal with his friends.
hunters get a pet and if you can get the mobs to atack your pet while you just pelt them with arrows/bullets it's very easy to take on several at once.
other classes have their own tricks too.

Locks are quite handy at handling mobs, void walker takes agro and you get to fear, best bit is if you do get kill you always got your soulstone :D

mages can solo up to 100 and more mobs whit the right playerskill and strategy. go practice and have fun :) ( and no, i dot speak of lvl 60 mages hitting lvl 1 mobs, i mean mobs at your level. )

( i d link to the vid here but i dont think we can link to this wow movie site any more due to gold selling ads )

You won't be able to do the whole mage AOE grinding thing until later... when you unlock more of your talents... but it is indeed great fun to watch people out grinding doing single target DPS and then you ride by them round up 15-20 mobs at once and AOE them all down. I always get at least one tell from someone telling me how they hate how mages can take out so many people. :)... But it takes practice, a higher level than you are now and if you're going to reach anywhere near the 100 number (which most people never will regardless) an epic mount.

Hunter's, Locks, Paladins and Druids (also talent dependant though) are also pretty adept at taking on several mobs at once.

I don't have experience with many classes, but I'm getting where I survive more 1v2 and 1v3 fights than I used too... self heals are key, roots can tie one down for a bit, or even sleep if it's an animal, and when mana is low, cat or bear form... cat for dps, bear for armor.

Good Luck!

pm sent. remember, this is only the basic tactic, if you master it you can kill as many mobs as you can pull, there is no upper limit.

If you're a priest you can shackle undead mobs, but since very few mobs are undead it's not as convenient. Further, priests are probably the worst class for killing multiple mobs because they've got sub-par control abilities. Instead most of their spells are focused on either pure healing or damage.
I found that when on my druid you can't kill multiple mobs that fast, but (at least at low levels) you can self heal and then switch into bear form which will give you so much survivability that you probably have regenerated the mana needed for another heal when you need another heal (how convenient :] ). If you want to just quickly kill as a druid it's better to be catform only and fight lower level mobs. This way you'll be able to kill continously without any downtime except for the odd heal.

mages are the best multiple mob killers period.
However one slip up and you are dead. Druids are pretty good against multiple mobs, however it takes ages to kill them.

I've found with my UD priest, I can kill 3 mobs easily (as long as Devouring Plague isn't down). It's useful for those deadwood mobs. There are probably more efficient ways to do it. BUt I will PWS, then MB, SWP, MF the first mob. Hit Psychic scream, MF, then wand to death. By the time he's dead, I'll have 2 mobs on me and will have started taking small amounts of damage. I SWP, Devouring Plague, Vampiric embrace a mob, then wand to death...the life gained will almost completely balance out the damage i'm taking. After the second mob died, I've regained enough mana to shield, SWP, MF, MF, and wand to death. Sometimes, I'll still have some mana left over at the end of it all, haha.

While I'm on the subject, I would like to sing the praises of the old VE, SWP, DP and wand to death trick. It will kill a mob in about 22-24 seconds, and if you're fighting a single mob, will regain 1/3 of your life, and 1/3 of your mana (After about 7 or 8 seconds of spirit tap). It's like a free rejuv. potion.

with the damage caps to aoe spells it makes killing a significant number of mobs, 15+, much more difficult. I watched a mage in the expansion try to aoe the scarabs in Zulfarrak, an easy place to get a large group of mobs, and he was barely touching them due to the damage cap.

please explain this damage cap. sounds bad :(

For every mob over 10 or so, you give out less and less damage per mob at a time. For 20 of them, instead of a 1k blastwave, you'd do like. . 450.

doh.

but hey, 10 at a time is pretty ok allready.

10 a time is a lot more then most classes can even dream about :p I'm happy.
