So i made a hunter awhile ago and I find it quite annoying that horde, alliance, mobs everything is all the same color in the mini map. You know the red dots that you cant determine if your looking at a horde in Stormwind or just another human. If any one of you programming types would like to take my idea and make it real thatd be awesome.Simply make it so that like Horde is red Alliance is blue mobs are yellow or whatever color you decide or even better make it accessable like SCT or something. It would also be great if you guys could tell me what you think of this idea, and why noone has thought of it before. Is it impossible to make? hope to hear from you guys soon

Thanks,

That's kind of the point, though.

When you're tracking Humanoids, you're... tracking Humanoids. The only way you should be able to tell the difference is by observing them... for the same reason that "Beasts" will show Hunter pets and "Demons" show Warlock demons. It's precise, but inprecise. The reason it has not been done is because WoW purposefully does not provide a method to find the race of the tracked people.

You mean you cant tell a hoof from a shoe? :) Large orc feet from small gnome feet? :)

Not its not that i cant tell the difference if I see them its that when i have a big area to search,it gets difficult to know who is who.Sorry if i wasnt clear enough for you wolfeh. So is there something in the rules that says this mod couldnt be made becuase i havent read that in the manual or anything.I think its a great idea it helps alot. And if your tracking you should be able to actually track not just see that there are beast near by or whatever anyone can do that by "looking". Point is can this be made or not?

I see your point, and supposing that the hunter gets the idea of what's around him by observing the tracks in the area then yes, I agree - it would be logical to at least make the horde and alliance humanoids a different color. Yet right now, I'd be much happier if they'd at least allow us to track both resourses AND creatures, instead of just one thing at a time. I find myself always sacrificing hunter's tracking abilities in favor of being able to find my resourses.

Another good point, maybe two mini maps?

Check out the ICU mod. Doesn't change the color of the dots but does give you a lot of information about the human/creature when you click on or mouse-over the dot on the minimap.

This doesn't, however, solve the issue of tracking both resources and mobs at the same time, which is also a problem.

They can't possibly put every mod that wouldn't be allowed in the manual, now can they? Hunter tracking is a nice skill as it is, I don't think it needs that kind of improvement, since every other class will be shouting "imba". And with good reason. In BG's now, the other faction still has a chance of remaining unseen with a Hunter defending the base, because there are not so many Hunters who take note of the player names in their team. So, I didn't vote because there isn't an option "Keep it as it is, it's fine this way".

The only thing I have some problems with is the fact that, as a Hunter, you can't track resources and creatures at the same time. For this reason it is a big disadvantage to have a gathering skill for a Hunter, and that is just wrong.

My point exactly. Why not let hunters the chance to track both mobs and resourses? It's not like when you go around forest you only see either plants or animal footprints. You still can see both! So why WoW hunter can't??? I think this is a definite cry for improvement.

With the current tracking, it seems that WoW Hunters are the worst hunters ever. Any RL hunter can tell you the difference between something with hooves..or something with boots. RL hunters can tell you if they are female...height/size...etc. So it only makes sense to have different color dots on the radar for different species. Really...if it wasn't for traps...I'd say the Hunter class shouldn't even be called Hunters...but rather Beastmasters, since that it what the focus point for hunters is...our pets.

Seem to vaguely recall, that there was such a Module at one point. Seem to recall that Blizzard altered the scripting language to break it and made it clear that they didn't want any further research done into this area, because it violated their vision of what WoW should be like. Memory could be off though. *shrugs*

But only for that... ;)
