Is it possible to have a tanking warrior (ie. protection tree talents) and still be viable in PvP (being able to move up the honor rank). - I basically like to use sword/shield but want to PvP as well.
If not, what is the best build/talent distribution for warriors that wish
to PvP?
to PvE?

Yes, in a fashion. under the current system, and this probably won't change much for AV/WSG/AB.

You gain honor by your raid killing and taking objectives, not by how many kills you personally do.

As prot spec just realise you aren't going to kill much but use prot spec to disrupt enemy attacks. Just don't expect to be anywhere but close to the bottom of the HK list and be prepared to die a lot.

Try to stick with a crowd, use hamstring on everything that moves. This applies to PvP spec also, warriors on their own are often just fodder for a lot of casters, especially if you don't get a charge in.

Concussive blow (if heavily protection) is lethal for that mage bouncing around with AoE, a 5 second stun on a cloth wearer in a pack of enemy = mage pancake, especially as they usually blink in.

If you find a decent healer (prepared to actually heal) and can charge into 3-4 of the other side, shield equipped, spamming shield block you can sometimes get a crowd around you which your casters can then AE.

A reasonable PvP/PvE build that gives some of the tanking goodies (certainly for 5 mans) is 31/5/15, you have some burst damage with MS and 15 points in prot give you the basic tanking talents.
