Ok, there are a lot of people on this forum and for the most part they are an intellectual cut above the official forums so i bring this here for explanation.
It would seem that a guy in one of the medium high end native guilds (MC Ony) on my server (Scilla-still a young server so most of the progression has been from xfer guilds) organized a PUG raid on ZG (tried for MC but not enough people) and gave loot to the wrong person then ninja'd the loot on the second boss. This was done supposedly to prove people are only in raiding guilds for loot.
What I don't get is what thought process would make him think people WERE'NT in raiding guilds for loot? I mean sure you will have a few friends in those guilds but for the most part you are usually together based on times you can raid and the promise of loots for all. I mean that is like trying to drown a bunch of people to prove to them that water is wet.
Ordinarily I would write him off as an idiot and a liar (he gave the first boss loot to the wrong person - maybe a friend?) but he has some supporters and it looks like this was planned out between at least a few people.
Enlighten me forum folk! Can anyone understand the thought process here? :ponder:

Ah yes. The old... uh. Wait. What ?
So this nimrod wasted a bunch of peoples time so he could do everyone a favor and show them they where raiding for loot ?
I think "hek" summed it up quite good on the forums:
i dont know man, you pretty much come off as a complete tool. i mean, who the hell would waste that much time to prove that people play this game for loot? i think you could have just asked them. everytime i reread all i can think is that you are insane. seriously. this is really creepy man.
Another noteworthy post from Kakure this time:
So in any event, you decided you were not going to sit idly by while all these people played the game for the wrong reasons. Being the upstanding guy you are, you took it upon yourself to do something about it. A lesser person might just have explained to them that anyone who does not play the game your way for the reasons you do is wrong. But no, not you. You decided to go one further and show them how wrong they are.
I am missing something here? Because you really come off as crazy, man. Not just a little bit kooky, but like padded white walls, straightjacket-bound crazy. I highly recommend seeking professional help.
I think we can safely say that Overpwrd is 100% crazy and needs help and anyone supporting him on the forum knows that he for some reason has real life access to them and would hurt them if they didnt.
Thats my conclusion.

Eh, ok - what?
No, I certainly don't get it. Is this guy on some personal vendetta (complete with devout followers) to prove that all raiders care about is getting items? WoW is by design a very item based game, and in order to progress your character beyond the level cap you have to either PvP or participate in raids. A lot of people (including me) value the commeraderie and the challenges in raiding, but ofc it is also about improving your character through loot.
I also believe in investing in social currency, and that includes farming mats for your guild, passing on an item when a guildy needs it to get 8/8, not being a ninja, helping people out with quests etc - all the things that will improve your virtual reputation in the game. Be considerate to others, and they will help you out when you need something - it's as simple as that. This guy managed to make possibly 18 other players' ignore list at the same time, just to prove some vague point. Nice going - kudos :)
*sigh* Yet another reason why "PuG raids" is an alien concept to me.

/ignore overpwred
deranged indivuals like that are slightly amusing if you're not the one on the receiving side though. Still he gets 3/10 for trying!

Are we discussing this guy being a total jerk? If so, can't I just go there to the official forums to do so?
Why are we bringing that discussion here?

 not much better to do on a patch tuesday at work.
But yes, I just wanted to see if I was missing the point. People were defending this guy setting up a pug raid to ninja loot and thus prove people were greedy .... still loses me.
I like to try to understand the reasons behind why people do weird things, helps me avoid weirdos in the future

My opinion is...Who cares? a ninja thing on a different server happened...don't play with them.

Just because people were upset with him ninjaing does NOT mean they were only there for loot. That is like saying being upset that someone stole from you proves you are materialistic. That is just stupid. Any of those people that cheer him on I would never group with. Seriously the official forums are a cesspool, i can't imagine what kind of people these are in real life.
And it's also why I don't pug even ZG or AQ, since i've seen this type of behavior firsthand.

Going on official WoW forum to get some info is like going to a ghetto and expect to find a rolex... most of the time you'll end with crap and find yourself lucky to "only" regret you had gone there. :azn:

Hmmm I was reading about some wow scams the other day and this is one of them that someone made up. It's actually a little scary what these folks come up with.
Play with people you trust, don't give anyone anything (I've had the rogue say, can't open it in the un-traded items, just trade it to me a couple of times - of course, I look for an honest rogue :-)
Get a group together, ninja the loot and disappear.
The guys a scammer - all his words in the post are just smoke.
