View Full Version : Todays patch - problems

I exprienced a problem with the new patch today - which turned out not to be a problem.

After logging in, the client will do the 'downloading patch' bit then says 'click restart to restart WoW'. I did this and WoW appeared to freeze. I had to restart my machine.

Second time around I waited a bit longer. After a little while I found that WoW released focus and I was able to get the taskbar up. I then saw that the Blizzard updater was actually working but behind a crashed WoW app.

So if it seems your WoW has crashed at the 'restart' screen give it a few minutes and then ctrl-alt-delete and end the (now) failed WoW app leaving the Blizz updater to carry on with its thang.

Hope this helps a few

Well I have updated WoW, and then the problems started ...

Retrieving characters takes 5 minutes. After that, when I pick a character, I get the loading screen, after which I'm immediately kicked back to the "Retrieving Characters" screen. Which takes 5 minutes again.

Changing realms doesn't help either. VERY annoying!! >.<

That's probably lag, Findariel. Don't expect stable servers for a while yet.

Same problem here. Takes over five minutes to retreive characters then doesn't bother to connect to the server.

Still busy trying to get playing - after 2,5 hours.

Still the same problem; sometimes a character actually loads and can I walk around but then I get thrown back to character retrieval within 3 minutes.

The authentication servers are probably having issues.

This was a huge patch. When Blizzard releases huge patches, don't expect stability for at least 2 days.

My main character is on Lightbringer but I also have characters on Darkmoon Faire and Ravenholdt. But I have the same issues on all 3 servers so it's not a server-dependent problem, apparently.

The authentication servers are probably having issues.
This was a huge patch. When Blizzard releases huge patches, don't expect stability for at least 2 days.
As an ex-guildwars player I'm used to streaming updates and - at the most - a few minutes loading time in each instance after a patch. This seems severely bugged and hardly tested software.
I must say that it sounds everything but professional, I play WoW for a little over 3 montsh now and it's the first major patch for me.

Anyone knows if it is usual that Blizzard compensates for lost playing time?

Blizzard compensate customers, you must be joking :D

That would imply that they actually care about users rather than just making money ;)

I played Guild Wars too. In the largest Guild Wars guild and part of the Alpha team. So, I know where your coming from.

But, ArenaNet doesn't release updates of the magnitude Blizzard does - 500Mb to 100 servers for 7 million customers. The scenario is a bit different.

Blizzard has been known to credit players with one free day if several serevers are down for more than 18 hours spanning over peak playing time.
Instability does not count, so no you won't be seeing any free time from this patch.

In general after a new patch stability is exremely poor for several days following. There has never been a patch of this magnitude in the history of the game, so I can see the servers taking up to a week to stabilize.

Still can't get in to Burning Legion, the notice said it would be up by 19:00 CET. I try to log in and it attempts to make me select a new realm!!! Is that normal?

Well the updates before the realeases of guildwars' chapters 2 and 3 were quite big as well, without causing any significant problems as we're facing now. Sure, the download - sometimes over 300mb - took a long time (1 hour+) but at least after loading everything worked ok.

Maybe it has to do that ANet's designers were from the original Blizzard Battle.Net team - they know what they're doing, apparantly.

Atm almost all servers are down again, except a few. They're getting up again 1 by 1, it seems.

Man, I feel lucky, I logged in last night about 9:00 MST (about 18 hours ago), and had 0 problems. Logged each of my 9 characters in, destributed talents, checked mailboxes, trained new skills... The only lag I noticed was that players in IF weren't showing up for about 10 seconds, but thats normal for peak hours anyway.

I even looked in my banks, and all my bags were where they belonged.

I was commenting to my husband on how amazed I was that everything was up, running and stable. Then I logged into the forums... Wow, unhappy campers everywhere.

Gogo Blizzard! :hide:

Besides some noticable bugs, everything seemed to run fine last night. As far as servers being down today...all I have to say is I'm happy it's happening while I'm here at work. Hahahaha.

Findariel?!? (/wave from Katya) Another familiar face from GWO. Man, it seems like there's a lot of us here.

Things were running smoothly for me a few hours ago, I played through a few quests before heading off to work. (That would have been about 5 or 6 hours ago now) That was on The Venture Co and Lightning Hoof, if that makes a difference.

Any ideas , help , prayers

Background loader update had this message at log-in
" Unable to Validate Game Version. This may be caued by file corruption or the interference of another program"

During the downtime i had put some add-ons in the wow folder and waited to log -in. after this eorror message i have deleted and reinstalled 3 times. The 1.12 patch goes right into game and then into the 2.0 patch after witch I get this death message. Any Clue...Anybody ???
